Trey is so nice about Ashley….but seriously she was bogus for not going when she was “supposed” to. When she finally jumped she then turned around and expected the people behind her to overtake…like what the hell. It was total hypocrisy.
@hawkeyegrace11 ай бұрын
1,000% agree!! I feel like Trey in this interview is recalling back a totally different experience! After Glass Bridge (and her being the reason Trey was eliminated), she was burned for me. I COULD NOT STAND HER after that!! I even went back and rewatched it after watching this video and I still feel strongly about it. Roland and Elliot’s plan is so sound and fair, and that would totally be the way to play. I was so annoyed by her and her snarky little commentary. I’m sure it’s difficult for the players to feel that way since at this point they are all so close and have relationships, but she was so selfish during this challenge and I couldn’t get over that. I was elated when she finally got eliminated! The way she was acting before she took the jump, and then how she flipped 180 telling everyone else to go after was so freaking annoying.
@Challam3ow11 ай бұрын
@@hawkeyegrace Yes I rewatched the show too after the interview and Ashley even says herself how she wasn’t down with the plan and even called Marina stupid for overtaking Trey!! Ughhhhh! 🤯 lol. Trey and Roland may be friends with her now but Ashley definitely burned herself to the viewers. I do agree with their commentary about TJ…he was a bit much at times, lol.
@hawkeyegrace11 ай бұрын
@@Challam3owtotally agree!!! I’m sure some of that is good editing, but at the end of the day, she said those words and buried herself with the viewers. Honestly, I remember being SO pissed no one else was making a bigger deal about Ashley after Glass Bridge was over! You see the higher number players express that sentiment in the moment, but then it was over and everyone dropped it. I get that eventually she was forced to go after Trey is eliminated, but in my mind that didn’t absolve her. As much as Mai became annoying and backstabby after that, I agreed with what she was trying to convey…she just executed that extremely poorly. But then she showed her true colors and became unlikable anyway. So frustrating! And I also completely agree with you about TJ!! He seems like a really nice guy and I liked him at first, but then more the show went on I was like…”Mmmmmm k. We get it. Tone it down.” Also the fact that he was so far off with Mai in saving her TWICE when immediately before that she couldn’t stand him…he truly had a poor read on her and the situation. She wasn’t that great of an actor masking her feelings, but he just kind of saw the best in people and thought she was all about his leadership.

I just can't understand why the people in Squid Game didn't get upset about Ashley's hypocrisy and end up painting Mai as an antagonist, I mean what the hell she had every right to get upset about it and throw Ashley out, too if she didn't jump herself. Ashley simply cheated out perhaps the most popular candidate in this show and no one of the cast cared,its so ridiculous...

It was ridiculous and stupid. Because Ashely would hugely benefit from the 50-50% rule. Tbh I think everyone was so stressed on the bridge that they barely registered Ashley's behaviour. Mai was safe behind everyone, so she was the only one to easily notice Ashely's behaviour.

Mai might be a bit backstabby but her nominating Ashley after glass bridge made SO MUCH sense to me. Trey is being a lot more mature than I would’ve 😭😂
@eat.food.not.friends7 ай бұрын
Plus- Mai played clever the whole time. What Ashley did was just stupid. She had number 5, doesn't need rocket scientist to find out that all 4 who had to jump before her would be eliminated very soon, and then she would be the next in line to jump before the rest of them. Her chances with the group were much better than allone. And on top of that> she made herself enemies. In a game where the contestants can get the chance to eliminate each other...
@kypr55455 ай бұрын
@@eat.food.not.friendswe gotta consider what they said though as participants in the game, Ashley was going through a lot of pain whatever it may have been. It happened faster than editing made it seem and Trey moved faster than she could’ve volunteered
@eugeniaefendy26 күн бұрын
Mai's decision making was totally understandable. I can see myself decide the same thing as her. Talking about backstabby like when she talks dirty about TJ, it was also understandable. She was being cautious of someone looking too "kind-hearted" since it is a GAME after all. In real life, as an adult, we would have a bit of doubt as well when we see someone like TJ, until proven otherwise. And her decision to chose her best friend over the "girls alliance" was also wise, even tho it would be better to do it like Amanda (asking her best friend to pick a woman after). Her "backstabbing" Roland at the Circle of Trust then tells white lies about it at the dorm, it was just a tactic and nothing nasty I think. Unlike Ashley at the Glass Bridge who was straight up coward and selfish. Oh and... Mai always tried to clear things up by having conversations with TJ and Ashley. That took guts and humility.
@shawn-807711 ай бұрын

I really need someone to explain why everyone has an issue with what Mai did in the dice game, but no one is acknowledging the fact that she did that in retaliation to what Ashley did in Glass Bridge. Like, I am seriously confused. They acknowledge what Ashley did and are fine with it, but pissed at Mai for retaliating and then encourage Ashley to retaliate to Mai? What? I thought I'd get more context here but it's never explained here either.
@spenceregerton526811 ай бұрын
The reason why Roland is so upset at Mai is because she eliminated him during the gift box game.
@wcdchannel11 ай бұрын
@@spenceregerton5268 That doesn't explain his encouragement to Ashley to retaliate against Mai when he was still in the game. Nor does it explain why it seems everyone is giving Ashley a pass but aren't happy with what Mai did and are also ok with Ashley getting to retaliate on Mai's retaliation, even after the fact. There has to be missing context that we didn't get to see, and for whatever reason, no one is bringing up and just dancing around it, because not one of these people is coming across sane to me in regards to that whole scenario, except for Mai.
@Roland.Hannigan11 ай бұрын
@@wcdchannel I wasn't supporting Ashley over Mai in the dice game. I completely understand why Mai chose Ashley in the dice game and I wasn't upset with her reasoning at all but her decision was not that of a team player during the dice game. So the reason I told Ashley I would support her choosing Mai on her turn was because that was the most efficient way to squash the beef, move on, and continue with our plan to self eliminate
@wcdchannel11 ай бұрын
@@Roland.Hannigan So Mai's decision wasn't that of a team player and you encouraged Ashley to target her for the sake of the team and to squash the beef? Since you felt the need to interject, what you could've done was hold Ashley accountable and made it clear that Mai's move is already evening out the playing field based on when Ashley already made a decision that wasn't in favor of the team and that had actual repercussions. If your logic is that Ashley gets to retaliate against Mai because of what Mai did, to squash the beef, then it should've ended with what Mai did because that was already in response to what Ashley did. Instead, y'all are basically villanizing Mai (in that moment) for doing the exact same thing you are saying was fair for Ashley to do, when Ashley didn't earn her retaliation, she made the selfish move first.

Ok, this is hands-down the single best piece of media out there to answer so many questions about the realities of the challenge (which are 1,000% in line with what I expected). I just applied to go on Season 2, and I would die (of happiness) if I got on and saw Roland there!! I already totally loved watching him, but now after watching this podcast, I’m seriously SO f*ing pissed he didn’t get more air time! This was such an entertaining and insightful video that I had to pause and go back to watch the different scenes of the show while listening along to savor up every nuance. The only thing I couldn’t find was the mummy scene, which I’m totally going to have to go back and find. THANK YOU for sharing so many details and answering questions! It confirms everything I was thinking that the show realistically was (in a good way). I used to live in Los Angeles and work in the industry, so I totally get that at the end of the day they need to make an entertaining show…and that is going to come first. While I don’t think that it was “rigged”, while watching the show I kept thinking how there was no denying that the producers had their favorites and totally played up the screen time and interviews to that end. I couldn’t believe how many crybabies and complainers there were about the “harsh” conditions. They totally seemed like exaggerated sore losers. Yes, we get it. The food sucked, it was cold, and it was a mindfuck. That is 1,000% what you signed up for, and I guarantee it’s WAY better than Survivor or any of those reality shows with a prize that is a fraction of this one! I’m seriously so psyched for Season 2. Maybe I’m delusional for thinking that I have a super solid chance of making it on. My delusions of grandeur end there. I don’t think it would be a huge challenge to get on the show if you know how to sell it on the application, but I do think it would really suck (and is extremely likely) to make it and get eliminated almost immediately. Thanks again for sharing so much! Totally looking forward to more Squid Game content! I especially can’t wait to hear about Glass Bridge (if you can ever talk about it without violating NDA)…because when I read that interview with the producers where they revealed so much about that, you CANNOT tell me that pausing the clock and brining in stunt people for the falls did not impact the reactions and drama at all!!
@MilA-eh3gf11 ай бұрын
This is great Roland! Thank you for doing a run down of your experience in the games! One thing I have to say is that not being mad at Ashely is one thing (and as her friend you can hold a nuisanced opinion which is fine), but pointing the “you were making the plan work less” finger at Trey at 1:18:30 and“now I know you just weren’t listening at all and didn’t know[the plan]” - is unwarranted. He knew the plan. He was covertly asking Ashley to adhere to the plan. Him taking extra risks was because he didn’t want to hold up the entire line as hostage. It was an honourable thing to have done despite it put your (honestly, very brilliant) plan in jeopardy. I think you could have changed your tone in this podcast a bit? Trey was silly for not directly calling Ashley out at the time, but your plan was at risk because of Ashley’s uncooperativeness, which forced an action out of Trey; not because of Trey.

Choosing the cookie shapes was my favorite part of the show, not only is it an interesting exercise in game theory, but it's played out in fromt of everyone. Nobody that chose umbrella really did it 'right' in demonstrating to the other leaders that theyre choosing umbrella as a favor towards the other leaders, but as a ladt resort. I dont understand the hate towards the leader choosing umbrella though, obviously it's harder but there were plenty of people who screwed up the easier shapes as well and in the end the only opinions that matter are the ones who passed that challenge anyway.

I am loving this! You both are fun to listen to. One correction, I think if you picked Mai for the dice game, then Mai gets to pick who the die goes to next to pick someone else and then roll.

Because Mai picks Ashley and then Ashley hands the die to a new person, right?

This was so entertaining and insightful! Thank you for making this content 😊. One thing I’ve been wondering is whether or not the glass bridge had a 2-person-per-tile maximum like the original show did. It feels like the first two people to make it to that last tile could just run the timer out and jump to safety at the last second since no one could pass them or have time to follow them. I didn’t play red light green light but I still think holding a position for a long time (especially in the cold) and going right to a sprint feels like a way to easily injure a muscle. People with something like Raynaud’s would probably also have a tough time. But 100% people can only speak for themselves

The moment they did the pick 20 and they showed that redhead girl Allie maybe? I was like who TF is this girl? Like as the viewers it was the first time we had ever seen her at all. I was so confused like why the hell should she go forward when no one knows who she even is?
