Romantics care more about taste, aftertaste and flavor of art, some power to use. And there is another power of text - spirit of the text, cunning, playful etc.

Thank you for these videos. I only want to say that nowadays the field of Religious Studies hardly does comparative studies of religion, inasmuch as it has given way to very same postmodernism that you're critiquing. Many scholars in the field, bent on "critical approaches to religion," go so far as to question the very tenability of the concept of "religion" and the whole enterprise of "'Religious' Studies." It feels almost as if scholars of religion are undermining their whole reason-for-being scholars of religion.

Agreed. It’s Religious Studies following Literary theory down the path that led to the demise of English literature.

Another great lecture and is appreciated. Not sure I agree that the only difference between age of reason (enlightenment) thinking and the counter-enlightenment is emphasis on feelings. Pretty sure Isaiah Berlin points out more. But I’m following along and loving these lectures as I can get to them. Now Dr. Masson has a series on Hamlet. Can’t wait. Shakespeare is great and I don’t care what anybody says to the contrary.
