I wanted to post this solution in case you tried the solution in the video yet it didn't solve the pinch roller problem. If you are still getting the error message, no matter where you move the pinch roller, then it is because print head can not read the pinch roller's position. It is either the pinch roller sensor is unclean (dust/oil/ink) or the cable connected to the sensor is damaged (in that case it will need replacement/ you will need to call in maintenance). There is a sensor at the back of the print head. To see it, first turn off the main power from the back. Then gently take the printhead to the middle. Remove the media from the back, take a flashlight and go to back of the printer to peak through the gap. You will see the back of the print head. If you look closely, you will locate two squares next to each other with a slightly different color than the rest of the plastic and two very small squares that look like there is a very tiny camera in them located at the right of the squares. They are the sensors and they need to be clean. You can use a new cleaning tool that you use to clean the head when making a manuel cleaning. Gently clean the sensors. After cleaning, put the print head back to it's resting location at the very right and turn the printer on. Hopefully your problem will be resolved. If you still having the error and you believe you cleaned the sensors, then it is very likely that there is a cable failure at the sensors. Since the print head is a moving object, those cables may get damaged in time. You will need to call in the maintenance. To change the cables, the whole print head will probably need to get dismantled. I am hoping this will help someone because when i had the problem and searched the internet, there was no resolution and I spent almost two days to resolve the problem.

definitely not the problem, its very rare case someone doesn't have that rubber wheel over the grit with vinyl in between. i have checked like 20 times nothing in way still getting error. as far as the media clamp i tore that off years ago and never had a problem since.

Tried this several times with no success. I believe the sensor is disconnected based on internet searches for similar concerns. Can you post a video on how to reconnect?

My BN-20A current issue is that one pinch roller is totally fixed in its position to the machine hardware. I'm trying to load a Matte photo paper roll (Epson brand) that is 17" by 100 feet. It's getting a pinch roller error because the pinch roller wheel can't properly align with the grit/grip - and I'm struggling to see a solution. Advice if anyone has a possible solution...

Hopefully this isn't too late, and helps resolve your situation. I work in an innovation hub and recently ran into the same situation you are describing. One of our staff setup a print incorrectly and we experienced a print head crash into the left media clamp. It was damaged so we had to replace it. After replacing the clamp we have been getting the pinch roller position error. I noticed that our old clamp had a black piece of felt on top of it. (you can see it in the video at 1:05) However, the replacement clamp did not come with this. On a whim I decided to try sticking a piece of painters tape on the new clamp in the same position, coloured in with black sharpie. We haven't seen that error since. I suspect that the pinch roller sensor reads some form of infrared light reflection, and when it senses no infrared light being reflected it takes that as the position of the clamp.

@@Whichwouldyou You are my Hero !!! Exactly the same happenned to us ! Why are they removing useful stuff like this ???
@Whichwouldyou
@Whichwouldyou 5 жыл бұрын
I can only see two reasons. The first being cost savings, most likely on a third party manufacturer who makes specific parts for the Roland machines. The second being they have another model which uses the same clamps minus the black felt. Keep in mind with the painters tape and black sharpie solution you may have to colour it in again after a few weeks. We've had to colour ours in a couple of weeks ago. Its likely some of the ink is evaporating and not absorbing enough of the infrared anymore. Glad my comment helped someone else. It seemed like such a simple solution yet none of the official Roland channels are covering it. Happy Printing!

The new media clamps do not come with the felt pad which is needed. I know I just went through a week of hell trying to find the answer to this. If you want to put the roland pad and you need a new one this is the information you will need to order it. BN-20 Pad, Media Spring - 1000007740 I ordered about 6 of them. Very sad thing about this is the pad is only .87 cents. I hope this helps people
