I've had this very amp for several years now. Thanks for this "years later" review of what's still a great amp!

If you hold the tuner button down rather than tap it it will show whether you are sharp or flat without having to choose what string, also you can have a really long delay using that tap button..cool video

I picked up one of these for 40 quid locally and didn't realize how versatile they really are. Thanks for the walk trough Dan.

Dan, This a wonderful video for anyone considering purchasing a Roland Cube GX40 like me. I kniw it pertains to the 40XL. As someone who has taught quite a few adult learners, Your step by step method was great. I subscribed. Thanks again.

Well done, sir. I have a Cube 30x, which is the model prior to this one. It doesn't have all of the features of this newer model, but you've shown me a thing or two that I didn't realize it could do. The Tweed model is based on a '59 Fender Bassman 4×10. I've never heard anyone demo it as a pure bass amp before. Awesome 😎 Also, if you press and hold down on the tuner button, it enters chromatic tuner mode.

I am dying to hear a comparison between the JC clean sound and a Jazz Chorus. Could you do it? Btw, hold the tuner button for a few seconds and it becomes a chromatic tuner.

I know that this is an old post, but I've actually heard the difference between the two. Roland really nails the emulation of the original in the modeller, but there is a difference. I attributed it to the fact that the Cube has a closed back cab and the JC has an open back cab. I felt that this gave the Cube's sound a touch more bass to it, which I actually preferred. Bear in mind that my use is as a practice amp. I'd probably take a JC on the stage all day long. I imagine that a smaller, lower powered, closed back mono 30/40w Cube would sound small, directional, and probably a bit boxy on stage by comparison to a 120w 2×12 stereo JC120 with an open back cab. A good alternative to the 30/40w Cubes on a stage might be something like an 80w Cube or a 100w Katana with a Speaker Out connection. The larger Cubes that had this connection powered both the main speaker and the extension cab. I hear that the newer Katanas power only the extension cab. In addition to the Cube 30X, I've also acquired a Cube 80XL. It has a Speaker Out and a Line Out. The 80X might have both, but I think that the 80GX removed the Speaker Out.

I had a used Cube 80 crap out on me. It is very difficult to get them fixed. A new Katana was cheaper than replacing the main circuit board of this amp. They say these are built like tanks. As of today Russia has lost 7366 tanks. They can't fix those tanks too.

Yes-exactly the same happened with this particular amp, but only after years of service and some sub-zero outdoor gigs. It’s fine until you turn the volume up and then it briefly bottoms out. Bought a Katana and it’s utterly dependable and great sounding!

I have one with a recording out jack but no line out. Can the recording out be used to go to a PA at a gig? Thanks!
