Roland Fantom G vs Roland FA | No Talking |

In this video, the fantom G6 uses reverb on almost all the samples. The FA 08 gives a dry sound without reverb, so the comparison should be with equal settings. As for the sounds, some sound better on the Fantom G6 and other sound better on the FA-08. However, I do agree with earlier comments, this is not a good comparison overall. The Fantom was far more expensive than the FA, but the FA has SN-voices build in to it that the Fantom G has not. They both can load two "srx-cards" with those sounds, with the Fantom G you must buy them, with the FA you can download them for FREE !! All this said, each person has prefferences for them selves, soundwise, so choose the one you like the most.

I actually like my fantom G8 a lot, bought it few days ago for €800 in excellent condition, have to say , as a fa07 and genos 1 owner, that Fantom G is a really great board, love its sounds, and love its keybed action, smooth and fast and fairly quiet , would recommend it to pianists. Dont think fa07 and genos sounds better. I got rid of Fantom 08 few months ago, i hated this board, action felt cheap ,some keys got noisy after few weeks. piano sounds were horrible, actually most of the sounds were very weak. If you want a workstation for 1K Fantom G is def still a great choice

The Fantom G is a powerful house of a keyboard. I use a Fantom X and is is superb. I am also a big Korg user as well. The korg synth are very impressive straight out of the box but the Fantom have a lot hidden away and they can be customised to be your instrument. Love it.

This is like comparing oranges and apples. Fantom G was a "flagship" of 3 grands or more when released, and the FA is intended to be an affordable (and low-weight) keyboard, absolutely handy for gigging and touring. I like to use some of its sounds and used to have a good old Korg Triton Rack for fuller and richer sounds. Now I'm doing right with this only machine and looking forward for a more modern rack to complete my live set (one that has USB slots and not floppy disks, for example)

One big advantage of the FA is that roland used some programs from the INTEGRA Board and the Jupiter 80 aswell, so it has the "newer" sounds. But the Fantom G ist still the better one, not just because of its durable casing

If you've owned both you'll know the FA does sound better than the FG, no doubt about it. The keybed is crap on the 06, they cheaped out on materials, but the sounds is actually awesome.

I have both the G8 (a monster weight-wise) and the FA07. Got the G8 after the FA07 for following reasons (advantages over the G7): full aftertouch keyboard, Skipback sampling “always sampling” feature, slider controls, velocity sensitive pads, massive screen… and mouse control!!) I get access to the SuperNatural and all Integra 7 sounds downloadable from Axios via the FA as it has the Integra engine). So - I can play the best most expressive classical pieces at home on the peerless ivory touch G8 board with FA SN pianos, with proper dual pedaling control, yet easily transport the FA07 for backing keyboard at church when necessary. Very lucky to have bought both second hand. The G8 interface & sequencing workflow, incorporation of samples is second to none, but it’s only ever going to be in my music room due to its weight!!

The FA series feel decidedly middle-range to me, and Roland don't seem to have a true flagship keyboard anymore. I use a combination of a Juno-DS and Fantom X live, as the FA series absurdly doesn't let you create your own multi instruments (multiple samples spread across they keyboard), yet the apparently inferior Juno-DS does.

The Fantom was really build as an ultimate studio workstation. The sequencer was par none. But you can't compete with computers anymore in the studio, it would be pointless for them to make another hugely expensive all-in workstation. The FA was a good move in my opinion. Lighter, cheaper, lot of SN sounds and no expansion cards. Plus phrase sampler - this is all build for gigging. But the Fantom G will be fondly remembered!

I miss my fantom g, and V synth Gt, I may get them again in the future. They looked really good, the gui on the G was nicely stream lined, for a seamless workflow, and if the internal sounds were not to ur liking, u could sample other keyboards. The pads are more usable that he FA’s, also the pads had polyphonic after touch. Pair this g sequencer with an integra 7, and u r good.

I got the integra 7 and the v synth gt.... The integra 7 has 6000+sounds, and countless waves too t sample into the vs gt for endless fun, and don't forget about the super natural synth engine with 400+synth raw waves that you have access to various xx80 kits and all the arx cards in it along with ipod connectivity. And let's not forget all the cosm filters on the vs gt ECT.

The FA sounds better to me, but..the Fantom G's giant screen and build quality are superior. Sound is subjective of course, but I got the FA 08 and it is excellent quality at an affordable price. I use it the most of my 4 keyboards because of it's light weight, variety of high quality sounds, and ease of use.

I have a Roland fa 8 and a Yamaha moxf8, the Roland fa 8 is far from a joke and far from a toy ball from a Casio out right now in higher price ranges the Roland fa 8 is II best when it comes to the Keys and quality next to the rolling Rd 2000 when it comes to sound quality Roland's new Supernatural sounds has no comparison in the price range if you ask me

I got the FA 06, and it is true Roland Workflow and Quality! All i miss i SN-Metal Guitars...and i don't understand why they have no one on Axial? Yes it is possible to edit the PCM Guitars to Hard Sound with the MFX it works, but nevertheless i wish "SN-Metal Guitars" for the FA ! The FA 06 is a Great Mashine, all over...the Audio Device Sounds very good, the Mic and Guitar Input have really good Quality, there is a Noise Gate and it do a very good Work! And the Recording possibilies are very good! I was shocked a bit as i don't find a "Punsh in and out" Modus...i throught "Oh my God" no punsh Modus? But with "Shift and Loop" you can modify the the Loop and than the Easy Workflow goes on! The Rhythem Pattern, i find it is strange that Roland build that up in that way? Why i can't not insert the Rhythem Pattern like it is in the "Boss Recorder"? Yeah i know, use the Rhytem you need push Rec and you got it...mh, for me that works only with the Trigger Mode and without a count in...so trigger the Keyboard Rec begin and Ready. But from the Rhytem Display, i have no clue how i insert my Rhytems? Thats a bit strange, but i get it to work. Overall it is a Fantastic Mashine, small and Powerfull with all Sounds you need under your Hands and you have a Audio Interface, thats Sounds Superb, with DAW Control and Audio Excange vise versa, that is Easy to Work with to Arrange your Songs...and for that i Buy the Mashine, to wirte Songs!

No question the FA07 keys much better than FA06. I tried new FA06 in showroom and would never have bought that new. FA07 are slightly longer too and better weighted. The sweet spot, I believe!

The G just has a quality sound that is missing on the FA. The have made the FA to have to perfect of a sound. The Fantasy pad is one sound that is awesome on the G. Maybe it's the filter section? There is still some analog in the G? Where the FA is all digital?

"FA" is for low-budget-hobby and "G" is for evergreen art. So the G-series are the cheaper, even at full price on release. All you need is G8+DT880+B2+talent to create a world-hit. (G7+B1 instead will do so. Behringer B2 best cost/value-micro- phone ever > 95%-Neumann for 9,5%.) I'm serious.

I used to have Roland Fantom G8. But, this bad boy weight so heavy plus the hard case will make you tired to gig arround. Then Roland came with FA-08, but the drawback is the sound not as good as Fantom.

I know this vid is on a FA08. But I bought a Roland FA06 when they 1st came out. I was pissed when it came in the mail & unpacked it. Compared to my Fantom G8, the FA06 sounded so chinsy & thin far as sound quality. & build quality on the FA06 is a joke. Its made & feels so cheap. Everything about the FA06 felt & sounded cheap. You are probably better off investing in the Integra rack unit instead.

It's funny people pointed "better sound on the FA08" PEOPLE: From the very beginning of the Fantom Series they all sport the new sampling technology: Super Natural, which allowed better and more realistic pianos and orquestra samples. SO, they sound the SAME ;) BWT, I wouldn't buy the FA series coz they really saved money on the cases and many materials.. and more than the sound pallette feels "very thing" GO on the Fantom G!!! A sturdy and modern desing plus, rich sounds and still, quality founded in a very nice workstation.

Just because it was manufactured in China does not mean it is inferior. The specs and quality control are dictated to the Chinese manufacturer. Many products delivered by Japanese companies are indeed fabricated in China.

se solo la fa potesse caricare almeno quattro espansioni anziche due e magari 128 mega di campioni user sarebbe uno strumento fantastico considerando l'architettura del fantom (derivata da jd990) e il motore supernatural. avrebbero secondo me dovuto renderla identica all integra come engine, non limitarlo a soli due slot da 64 mega, considerando che visto il contenuto della rom interna almeno la world, la solo strings, la ultimate keys e la orchestra sono indispensabili x essere competitiva. altra cagata la gestione delle mfx....su fantom x6 ne avevi solo tre pero potevano essere liberamente assegnate in performance. la fa ne ha 16, ma ne puoi usare una alla volta, se per esempio creo uno studio con solo una parte ma mi piacerebbe avere come la jd in cascata quattro mfx non posso farlo, e le altre 15 mfx rimangono li inutilizzate. da questo punto di vista kurzweil (qualsiasi modello anche artis e pc3le) è avanti anni luce perche le 16 unita fx (32 sui forte) possono essere assegnate a qualsiasi parte in qualsiasi ordine nessuno mi vieta di avere addirittura un effetto per ogni layer di sintesi (che poi sarebbe come se roland avesse un effetto indipendente su ogni partial). kronos non permette questo pero almeno ha 12 insert liberamente assegnabili anche in modo program. sembrano cavolate (a chi servono tutti quegli effetti in cascata?) ma in ambito sound design non lo sono per nulla....x esempio non aver la possibilita di usare due superfilter a 36 dB in cascata su fa (mentre si poteva su fantom x) è un passo indietro notevole. anche il fatto di importare samples ma non poterli mappare e usare nella catena pcm come su fantom è limitante per chi ama programmare. peccato....x colpa di qst cavolate fa si pone sotto a tutte le altre grandi compresa mox.

If you think that a FA sounds better, that means the ancient wave ROM from the XV modules, being 16Mb in size, sounds better to you than the 256 Mb of the Fantom G. 16 vs. 256...

petara45 i dont know technical things. but i think strings and full pipe organ is better on FA. pianos are equal. custom synth pads like fantasia is better on FANTOM G. probably most synths are better on FANTOM G. also fantom g lookslike more pro. bigger screen, interface etc. but instrument sounds are better in FA i think. that is what i need. i dont have both. i am planning to buy FA. but i would like to buy kronos if i have enough money. sounds are amaizing on kronos. especially pianos and strings. which is important to me. also making music quickly on keyboard(by recording and editing in it) is important to me... any advices??

To make it short: the wave rom of the fa is more than 15 years old. that is what you get. I do not say it is bad, just it is old. the wave rom of the fantom g is actually rolands last generation. With the exception of the pianos which are super natural on the fa series.
