Roland HandSonic HPD-20 used as a full drum kit.

At my church they have a Roland VAD 306 and I also use my Roland HPD-20. On the HPD-20 I set up a custom kit and added chimes layered with a rain stick on the D-beam. On various pads I added some additional snaps, claps, claves & cymbals to help give me some color on song intros. I've got the HPD-20 set up on my left while I sit behind the VAD 306 kit. As Kurt mentioned you do need to set up the pad sensitivity & tweak the EQ a bit to give it some additional ambience to your liking. Overall, it's a really cool percussion instrument.

I use a HPD 15 as a kit with a bass pedal ( i have 3 pads for different HH sounds) and use it all the time for 2 groups. Can do the job excellently, but takes a bit of time to set a couple of kits up and balance. But small, portable and has a volume knob! Bass pedal is an absolute necessity IMO.

Nice video, thank you. (Using an Android phablet with the KZbin app, I played the video as I believe it was intended to be oriented, by holding my device upside down; length-ways.) I recently acquired the HPD-20, and I think it was the best choice for me. I have been practicing percussion for years, but I am primarily an electric guitarist doing solo recording and performing. The HPD-20 allows me to maintain total creative control of percussion, versus "pre-fab" rhythms. With other helpful Roland/Boss technology, I have assembled an impressive setup.

You should try performing with an mpc 2500. 16 pads and you can layer 4 samples. I would like to get the Roland hand sonic one day to record percussion tracks with it. Great video.

Wow, that voice sounded like he was right there, present in the room! That device would work well for a keyboardist - playing it with fingers as opposed to playing drums on a keyboard.

Yes. Direct and easy via USB, or midi (and some interface). Or if you want you could record the audio coming out

I gig regularly with one using kick and HH pedals. It has some good sounding kits, and I think playing without the pedals is the problem here.
