Phill !!! Thank you so much for these videos. Learning so much. Unfortunately I don’t own a vintage juno, but I am trying to translate these sounds to the Jupiter-x emulations of the juno. Building tones from the bottom up and understanding the workflow and setup of the juno106 model really helps. Looking forward to your video on filters 🎉🎉🎉

Haha, it’s amazing that the were able to fit 1000 analog voices into that tiny little Matrix 1000 rack unit. Truly remarkable engineers at Oberheim.

Completely into my Juno-106, although it only arrived yesterday 😁. At first, a lot of tones were missing, somebody must have taken out the voice chips, removed the epoxy, put a shrink-wrap on them, and placed them back into sockets... Sockets are nice for easy replacement, but a SIP package tends to fall out during transport... I had to search underneath every PCB to find back the 2 that went missing during transport... I might end up soldering at least the outer 2 pins inside the sockets. Today I completely calibrated it, it's like new again, in very good shape also! Love the way how simple it is, but how much you get out of this simplicity!

Wow, sounds like a lot of work to get your Juno up and running. Worth the effort though!

@@philpeskett1 No, it was actually quite easy, I expected that in worse case I needed to replace the voice chips, or at least some of them, I guess now I still have the originals. Calibrating is 1-2 hours work, but quite easy if you have a simple oscilloscope, multimeter, signal generator and tuner. Just folow the steps in the service notes.

Thank you so much for this detailed explanation. Also, I really love the patch you played at the end!

The algorithm showed me this video. I think you might be my new favourite KZbinr. I was actually searching for this kinda video on Juno recently...!

Thanks, yeah the algorithm is a mysterious thing. If I search for this video myself it comes up as about the twentieth video in the list even if I search for the exact title of the video.

Phil! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this. Just got my hands on a Juno-106 (I’m assessing it for a friend) and this got me up to speed really quickly. Funny thing.. the patch memory was completely wiped on my 106. If I design a patch it only saves until I disconnect the power. There must be a dead battery dedicated to the program memory. Also voice 5 doesn’t trigger the filter resonance. Great video and great playing too!

Thanks Todd, glad you got something out of the video! Yes it sounds like you need to replace your battery. Easily done, you just need to take out some of the screws in the end caps (you don't even need to take the end caps off) and then the whole front panel will swing up on its hinges. Best of luck!
