This is wonderful. In my opinion the JUNOS were Roland's greatest synths not the Jupiter's. Love it when the synth does the whole track including the drums. That's how I make my music.

Nice song. I miss my old Juno-6, even though I have the 60. The 6 can do things that the 60 and the 106 can't.

I'm curious now (owning a Juno 60). What can the Juno 6 do that the 60 can't? I once passed on a Juno 6 for $400 (about 8 yrs ago)... But when I went to see it I arrived at the seller's house - it was worst hoarder/catshit house I'd ever seen! The poor Juno 6 was dented and caked in disgusting grime - wishing now I would have rescued it!

The cutoff frequency on the 6's HPF changes continuously as you move the slider, as it should, whereas the one on the 60 has just four fixed positions. So if you want to manually sweep the HPF while running the arpeggiator, for example, the 6 lets you do it. Additionally, the 6 has a CV in-jack on the back for modulating the LPF from an external source.

This is one synth that despite having owned two of them, has always left me slightly underwhelmed. Not quite sure why that is but when I decided that I was going to part with one of my polysynths there was never any thought that I'd keep the Juno over the Polysix. In fairness, it does a lot of things very nicely and it's easy to see/hear why the cliche of the Juno 6/60 being one giant sweet spot persists. It takes a talented programmer to make them sound bad. . . I'm obviously a better programmer than I tend to give myself credit for!
@rimela

I understand exactly what you mean. The Juno has a good basic sound and is quite limited in options and therefore very easy to operate. In a jam session, tweaking on the fly, you really can't go wrong with a Juno and that's exactly its strong point. In that regard, I prefer the 6 over the 60.

@@rimela exactly, easy to use but no surprises, so I lost interest before I'd finished the shop demo in 1983. Still got the Polysix I bought instead, though.

Excellent sounding! Nice tracks. Sounds like an expensive recording chain. What converters were used to capture such detailed and rich sound?
@rimela
@rimela 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For recording I use an old Mackie 32 8 bus mixer, Allen & Heath ICE-16 audio interface (16bit 44.1khz) and Ableton Live 10 on an old MacBook (2012). So, the recording chain is nothing fancy really. I use standard Compressor, EQ, Reverb, Delay from Ableton. No VST plugins. So I keep things as simple as possible. I do spend some time on mixing, so I think that accounts for the detailed and rich sound as you describe it.

@@rimela wow, I'm impressed! Thanks for taking the time. I've used a Presonus rm32ai for tracking my Juno-6 in the past and I can always hear a difference in sound after tracking. I figured it was due to the converters. Now I've bought a vintage 16 ch Soundmaster mixer and I'm waiting for my new SSL Big Six to arrive. I'm sure this will help but your story tells me I need to rethink my mixing strategy aswell. Very usefull info. Thanks again :)

@@rimelapeople are always confusing "expensive" with talent.😂 One of my favorite albums Sujan Stevens Illinoise was recorded with what most gear snobs would consider junk and mixed with headphones. Unfortunately talent can't be bought.😕

Is everything sequenced via midi?

For sequencing I used midi indeed but a lot was done using CV trigger -> Arpeggiator Clock Input.
