You demo has been one of the best playing and showing the many sounds possible, not just synth stuff. Thanks for doing that.

Thank you again, Mr. Katsunori UJIIE!! If this synth had another name it would be an instant classic without baggage. The sound is extraordinary and it is so capable a instrument. IMHO this can stand up to the Motif's, Kronos, Virus and Nords. I will add it to my studio, perhaps replacing the Virus TI. Forget about the underlying technology - does it sound like a quality instrument….certainly it does. One of the top 2 or 3 available today. Thanks again for showcasing all the new instruments. You do a service to all keyboard players out there in the world. Cheers!, Sam.

People are such idiots in general, especially with this new analogue fad nowadays. Claiming this sounds bad is just completely ridiculous. This is one the best sounding synths ever made. People hear more with their heads instead of their ears.
@dvamateur10 жыл бұрын
I have no problem with the sound of this instrument, and the build quality is also superb. I'd be more happy though if they removed that touchscreen LCD. I must admit that having touch screen knobs for editing on a physical instrument is a bit ridiculous. To me D-50 and JD-800 were perfect keyboard instruments in every way. I wish they would still offer D-50 and JD-800 brand new. As well as the A-80/A-50 controllers. Since Fender still makes Stratocasters with single coil pickups, I don't see a reason why Roland shouldn't still make the D-50. I understand that Roland has the "look forward ONLY" paradigm, on the other hand it is undeniable that they made some classic instruments, which I think it would be nice to still have available. I'd happily pay $1,900 for a brand new D-50 and $2,900 for a brand new JD-800, because these are my favorite Roland instruments. Unfortunately that's impossible, so I have to go on eBay and wait long years to come across a unit in good condition.
@1mchartmann10 жыл бұрын
You are correct the analog fad is boring me. I used to find analog interesting but the sameness got old and I went back to modern digital sampler synths like my Yamaha Motif and find the sound creation is much more versatile and rewarding.
@dvamateur10 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Yamaha Motif series have fantastic oscillators and filters, and very deep programming parameter list. I make do with SY77/SY99 which are FM/sample-playback hybrid synthesizers. I really like those early digital synthesizers, I am not sure why people frown at those so much. That's only good news to me though, 'cause since all the frowning makes the demand low, I can find some instruments on eBay in great shape and with very reasonable prices. What's not to like about that?
@dvamateur10 жыл бұрын
***** True, but it doesn't really matter, Of course nothing will ever sound like the real JP-8, but, the JP-80 sounds great in its own way. People hate it because they're too stingy to shell out $3,500.

I actually bought mine for the solid metal chassis build and 76 note semi weighted keybed, I’ve only actually used it’s sounds a couple times in all these years .. not that they’re bad .. just I’m a Kontakt and samples guy. The Jupiter 80 as old as it’s getting is still a wonderful master midi keyboard for a DAW/studio rig, wish Roland would bring back their A80/A50 controller boards (or Yamaha with their KX76/88) Modern midi controllers suck compared to what we had in the 80/90’s 🥺

Beatles Eternally I'd love to have the JP-80 if it didn't have that cheesy touchscreen.
@dvamateur8 жыл бұрын
+Beatles Eternally My favorite type of screen on a synthesizer is 2x40 characters LCD like on the DX7II, D-50, M1, V50, XV-88, etc. I can deal with 60x240 dot LCD like on the A-80, S-770, SY77, or SY99 as well. But screen on the QY700 starts look a little bit pre-school with those icons and all. This is where I draw the line. So, I chose the Integra-7 as my choice if Roland synthesizer. And no, I am not planning on using iPad with it. iPad is good for Facebook or KZbin, but for music I prefer dedicated gear.
@dvamateur8 жыл бұрын
+Beatles Eternally XV-88 is good, and frankly it looks more like Jupiter than the JP-80 (my opinion). But lately I prefer playing the A-80 connectied to Integra-7. Unfortunately, Integra-7 is most likely more software than hardware, but at least it doesn't look like a device a millennial uses to go on Facebook with.

Unlike the Kronos, this is not a workstation. So the comparison is unfair considering the same size Kronos is slightly more expensive. But impressive nevertheless. What it is: is 30 single oscillators synths for stage. Plus an "idiomatic" MIDI module. Not even Roland('s presets) have explored the depths of the types of sound one could create with it.

@beautifulmicia11 жыл бұрын
That is just the problem - Jupiter 80 does not do synthesizer sounds very well. Most of the Supernatural sounds can be found on the V-synth GT. I am having a hard time getting the JP 80 sounds to sound good in a mix. It is true that some sounds need to stand out but these do not sound beneficial in the overall scheme. Also, the arpeggios are lame compared to the Kronos or the Motif. Roland should really work on that aspect.

@187onasimp7 жыл бұрын
Man analog is over rated it's a trend for people that aren't really musicians. Guys in the 80's used analogue because that's all the technology they had. Modern Analog synths are far superior. Only reason to get a JP8 is for the nostalgic sounds until you realize it's a 30 yo keyboard with the limitations of 30 years ago. The Botique is a beast but it's only 4 notes of Poly you have to chain 2 of them together to make it 8 notes. It still sounds good and like a jupiter. The King of analogs is the Arturia Matrixbrute and as much as the gear snobs want to talk about the JP8 and no analogue this Matrixbrute never even comes out their mouth and that surpasses anythign a Jupiter 8 could ever do.

@@187onasimp You seem to know absolutely nothing about music or synths why offer an opinion at all. Its not a competition there are no best or winners an ARP 2600 isnt better than a Model D and a Matrix Brute is not better than a JP 8. If you think it is then you have missed the whole point of everything
@kefastvplaypedroariel21434 жыл бұрын
@@rossconran2333 Every synthesizer is tied up with a load of great sounds, but the ones I like more are the synths from Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Nord, Alesis and many others. No matter if It will sound either like the 80s, 90s, 2000s or nowadays, like... you know, modern music, but as a professional musician and composer, I consider myself that REALISM is not just the music, but yes, the fatness and brightness of the sounds that people never created in the real world, ever. And remember, not all synthesizers are able to create realistic sounding musical instruments, but yes, very good pads, pianos, strings, brasses and synth brasses. Keyboards and music softwares creates more of this realism with more functions and performances than any synthesizer.

Yes, it matters how you play. At least for the audience. But for the user/player, this keyboard like most recent Roland keyboards are often a nightmare because of ridiculous limitations put there from engineers who hardly have a clue what matters for a live performing keyboard player. For example, aftertouch is hardwired to filter in the SN synth tone. How many digital keyboards do you know with such crazy limitations? And that's just the beginning...

The only real issue with this keyboard seems to be the name, because it suggests comparisons of things that shouldn't be compared. And that seems to annoy people who like the paradigm of classic synthesis, myself included. I'm sure there's a market for a well-specified rompler such as this one, that is a good gigging all-rounder but also comes packed with a bunch of retro-ish presets and a retro-ish look. If I had a band that played something like Final Countdown on stage, I'd be in the market for such a device. Do patches sound cheesier than their original counterparts? Probably. But it has ALL of them, and then some. And in a live setting, the difference is rarely worth carrying seven keyboards instead of one.

The only thing that spoils this beautiful instrument is the USB door. The original Roland ROM and RAM cards were so much better. I am happy that Roland still makes the finest instruments around like the V-Piano, V-Drums, V-Accordion, RD-700nx, Integra-7, and of course the Jupiter-80.

I have a Jupiter 80 and an Integra 7. The raw tones are supposedly the same, but the Integra gives you these tones one at a time. You can layer them, but there are only 64 slots for layered patches and no layered presets. The Jupiter has over 2500 layered presets ("live sets") and those can be layered further (into "registrations"). So, in the end, they sound and work very differently. In a studio, the Integra is a good source of clean tones to add to your DAW. But for live performance, it's not as good. The Jupiter is a layering monster, that can produce tones that shake the walls. Both are useful, but different. It's too bad in a way--a "Jupiter in a box" would have been handy, but that's not what the Integra is.

This is synth is exactly what Vangelis call, the Direct Composing Approach, it's just a layers of gorgeous rompler, sound like the classical Roland D-50, the error is to call that a Jupiter series, because he have nothing to do with the original analog gear. good powerhouse synth for live but not so impressive.
@MethodicBR10 жыл бұрын
This is not a rompler for sure. You are hearing a compressed audio from youtube. If you hear it with good monitoring headphones direct from Jupiter 80 what you hear are crystal clear synth sounds full range from keyboard! There are some PCM sounds inside it , but don't be fooled, this is not a rompler. You can have up to 30 (yes, 30!) crystal clear synth oscillators at the same time.
@Meteotrance10 жыл бұрын
you know at this complexity it's like using all the osc of a DX7 it's gas work, shoud we need that ? it can make also phase problem issue between the OSC, i experiment a lot with additive synth or FM synth and it's almost gaz work with less than 5 layers of sound.
@MethodicBR10 жыл бұрын
Meteotrance No one is forced to use all oscillators at the same time, we all know that. Yet someone could create splits of multilayer sounds or even complex evolve sounds.It's overkill? Could be. It's a matter of personal taste and imagination. The point is, this is not a rompler as you said.
@dvamateur8 жыл бұрын
D-50 is not just a PCM player. It's a hybrid. It has square wave generator with variable pulse width (sawtooth is obtained at filter stage). The PCM section is just 76 samples sprinkled over a well featured subtractive synthesizer with ring modulator, 3 LFO's, low pass resonant filter, flexible envelopes, as well as parametric EQ, chorus, reverb, end delay. It's really a very good synthesizer the D-50. And even if you use samples as attacks or some spectral waves, they are not multisamples, so you won't get any annoying sample split points. It's all very smooth. I am a big fan of the D-50.

Tired of hearing this isn't a Jupiter 8 and it's not analog crap. It's been 30 years why would roland throw tech from 30 years ago into a next gen flagship keyboard? Do you go to the Apple asking them if you can have an 80's brick phone instead of a iphone? Even those 80's bands that made the Jupiter 8 famous don't even use the JP-8 when they perform their songs anymore. When's the the last time you saw Tears for Fears using a JP-8 on stage? Time has moved on get with it JP-80 is the future. It will be 10 years from now and you whiners will finally realize just what a gem this keyboard is when it's like going for like 8 grand. Just like the Roland MV-8800 you slept on that too and that was a decade ahead of it's time.

This just proves the OPs point--instead of using unreliable old analog gear, they're using modern digital gear that sounds the same or better. But you're too biased, stubborn and bigoted to admit that technology has advanced since 1982.

The "real analog guys" want 75 knobs to play with, so they can change a metalic noise sound- up and down- they love the noizzz ! .... and horror non- music. Instead of playing the keyboard...they wanna be scientists and make sounds that don t exist. Ok. We understand that. Then they see this synth and say is not even close to the old Rolands and dislike the video. . Go buy the old ones with knobbs...or only the knobs- you don t like to play beautiful instruments on the keys anyway.
