IMO, Roland has probably the BEST acoustic guitar sounds of any/all keyboards/synths.

Take a note: Roland JV80 are the keyboard version for JV-880.

It is incredibly, a lot better than today Roland is demos.... A pity. I had a jv 80 and jv 1000, then a xp 50.

This brings back good memories. My dad had one of these hooked into a Macintosh running Digital Performer. My friends and I would screw around making stupid songs with the various patches.

@2becurioso hi i dont remember now how to get the demo,but if you search for Roland Jv80 manual it comes up as pdf download file.this is instructions for the keyboard.If you cant get them.there is a site called Vintage synth explorer,which you go on to Roland synths,then JV-80 and in the right corner is the instruction manual to download free. hope this helps..FEZ

2:10 and 3:41 is easily the most impressive demos of 'em all. I really enjoy this synth, but as stated above it lacks in polyphony and parts. I'd say that if Roland one day released this one synth as a VST then I'd be hot damn buying it!

You may try Nuked SC-55, which emulate JV-880 very well.

@kyleemmanuelle Hi,I bought this for £180 from e-bay.Some of the sounds are ok,but you`re better off programming new ones.Quite a versatile keyboard.Good strings,brass,breaths,basses..pianos are cheesy,but with a tweak can sound bearable.Hope this helps you out! ;-)

there is no soft synth or plug in that can sound better and give as much control as a good kurzweil workstation or a korg kronos

Both of them! D-50 is the legend, while JV80 is expandable. But I highly recommend JV90 or XP30 or XP80 than JV80.

It is true that a whole lot comes from the circuits inside the synth. still nowadays the computer technique has surpassed the tech level that was dominant when JV80 was designed. Don't believe me? Just listen at Diva. So there's no doubt in my mind that Roland once will wake up and realize their fatal mistake not going for VST plugins. :)

I am sorry to say this, but any comparison made between a musical instrument and a computer is pointless. A dedicated professional device will never be a do-everything consumer device, and vice versa. Comparing a musical instrument with a real keyboard and physical form factor to a VST is like comparing say, a cinematic camera to a smart phone. People just won't move out of your way voluntarily when you shoot a video with a cell phone.
