I've been waiting for you to make this video! It was worth the wait. I've been deliberating on whether I would prefer the "Just a Little Serious" or the "Why So Serious" for some time now. I'd get both if I could justify it on my budget (not to mention one of the Le Thiers from Perceval). The lines on Roland's knives are so perfect; truly works of art. Not only that, but they appear to also be high quality users! Thanks for showing them in such an enjoyable and informative way.

The knife snobbery group is way more fun than the EDC/doomsday crowd. I like it. "Prepper" should mean "which fine knife are you taking to dinner tonight", and less about killin zombies.

JP Stone Agree. The modern techno tactical knife is so brutally purposeful, I run the other direction. As one perhaps should when faced with one.

I often take my own eatin' knife to restaurants, usually it's an Opinel No. 9. I don't go to many fancy restaurants, so don't need a really elegant knife like this one.

Stefan, have you noticed the tip being exposed slightly to catch a finger while in the pocket?
@rolandlannier94927 жыл бұрын
Not supposed to happen. Do you have a knife with this issue? If so, it might just be some dust near the stop pin, just blow hard near the pivot, it should fix it in no time.

380 Euro un-shipped seems like hysterically too much for a carbon fiber version of these. "Just a Little Pricey" should be the name of this knife. For 380 Euro I can buy some thoroughly incredible knives that look and feel better, made of comprehensively superior materials, and that can be used in a greater number of scenarios. Lannier has a growing beast with which to contend, and it isn't social norms and rules; it's the knife market as a whole.
@rolandlannier94928 жыл бұрын
Please feel free to buy another knife! I am not holding a gun to your face ;-) The knife costs what the material costs + how much time it takes to make it. If you think I could get carbon fiber cheaper, please tell me. If you think I could make the knives faster, please teach me. I you are comparing my knives with others made by robots, I am sorry man but I am not changing my processes...
@todaysgrailtomorrowsbeater8 жыл бұрын
First off, I'd like to say congratulations on making a beautiful knife. I understand that this is the cost for having a beautifully made custom knife with these materials. Having said that, the price bracket makes this a niche knife that a knife collector of my budget can't afford.
@rolandlannier94928 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I always appreciate a compliment. Nonetheless, I'll just say this because you used strong words in your first comment and I feel like I need to explain my opinion and my reality : I understand what you are saying, sometimes I make knives I cannot afford myself. It doesn't mean they don't deserve to exist or should be sold under their value. Should I place a limit over that I can create so it would always fit in a defined budget? There are many things of beauty way over my budget, but I am not mad at the people who made them for not making them reachable to me. I have only two solutions: get a better situation so I can afford it or make my peace with the fact I will only get to watch them, not own them.
@todaysgrailtomorrowsbeater8 жыл бұрын
You misunderstand me. I am speaking of your designs in the context of the market as a whole, and not in the context of any particular individual's ability to afford them. It is an argument for value rather than affordability. While I do see your designs as beautiful, as a niche product I can't justify spending the amount of money requested for what I ultimately perceive as a lack of true value. That's based on subjective assessments of what value is to each particular individual. I appreciate your attention to detail and workmanship, but for the same price one can acquire some high-end modern folding knives or gentleman's folders. A CRK Damascus Mnandi comes to mind. For double or triple the price, one can buy some very high-end, premium-material semi-custom knives from prominent custom knife makers, like Mr.Shirogorov. While I do appreciate the philosophical aspect of budget management, there is also a very real and practical way in which us knife-lovers like to spend our money.
@rolandlannier94928 жыл бұрын
Tha Mnandi and Mr.Shirogorov's knife exist, and the fact that my knife exists too doesn't harm them in any way. If you think they are better, more beautiful and/or a better investment, go ahead and buy them. I really don't want anyone to buy my knife and be disappointed afterwards. And as for the market, the least I can say is I don't give a flying fuck. I make the knives the way I imagine them with the tools I have. The prices are calculated in a very transparent way and I never pushed anyone to buy one, nor I will try to persuade you they are the best deal in the world. The other knife makers can work however they please and you can buy whatever knife you want. Plenty of fishes in the sea...
