Thanks for the tutorial didn't know I needed this but my current project has a guitar so I'l defo give it a try :D Stumbled upon this while searching for another thing, I can't figure out how to sequence scatter FX lol
@Sadiquecat3 жыл бұрын
Just tested it :D Another useful thing is shift+pitchbend knob will bypass it, so one can start or end at their desired setting. Could do only down pitches on a continuously playing sound. Cheers again !

Hi Ben - Thats a pretty cool trick - I'm always overshooting on those tiny knobs!! If I use this trick on one of my next tracks I'll be sure to give this video a shout out!

Is it true that you can't send pitchbend/modwheel messages to the mc-101 from an external controller? Roland AX7 or any other keyboard

For some reason it doesn’t work, I did everything exactly the same, the spring trick won’t work, it stays where I left it 😢

Hi Ben, love this idea! How have you got the Launchpad set up as your external controller please? Are you powering the unit on batteries and then just plugging it straight into the USB on the MC-101? I mainly wondered whether it was possible to power and control it over USB at the same time!? EDIT: Maybe I jumped the gun now seeing that you have a MIDI controller video on the way!!
@BenCoeMusic3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I’m getting power and midi through the USB. I’ll cover it in the midi video, but in my setup the MC-101 and the launchpad are both plugged into a raspberry pi which is set up as a USB midi host/router as described in this article neuma.studio/rpi-as-midi-host.html The raspberry pi is powered by a 3A max output current power bank (this one: www.pishop.us/product/compact-rechargeable-battery-for-raspberry-pi-20800mah/) and the whole thing lasts 10+ hours on a charge. It wasn’t too difficult to set up and it works really well, everything is stable and latency feels very low (I haven’t measured it), and totally portable! To summarize the simple answer is yes, you can get power and midi at the same time.

@@BenCoeMusic Nice one, thanks! I'll give that article a look. I was finding I was getting a lot of interference when powering my MC-101 from a non-powered USB hub that probably isn't getting enough juice, so I'm running it plugged straight into the mains currently. Good to know there's this option too though!

So, if I don't have an external controller, can I just do this with the pads/buttons on the mc101
@BenCoeMusic3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! You can play bend and play notes like this with the regular pad note mode or the scale mode on the pads just the same. I only did it this way because it’s easier for me to pretend I’m playing a guitar on the launchpad.

@@BenCoeMusic ok good, thanks you have done a lot to help me make better sense of the mc101, sometime if you have time I would love to get some critique/opinions from you on some of what I have done on my channel with the mc101 it has truly become my primary instrument and I try to approach it in terms of live performance actually playing it like an instrument not just turning sliders up and down and pressing buttons from one clip to the next

Hi! One question. How you connect the mc 101 to the launchpad?
@BenCoeMusic3 жыл бұрын
There are a few ways but without a computer you need a usb midi host, or get the launchpad pro which has regular midi out on the mini jacks. There are a few usb midi hosts out there, the bome box, iconnectivity makes a few, I’m actually using a headless raspberry pi to do it, which is really nice. I power the raspberry pi with a battery pack and plug both the launchpad and the 101 into the pi, which powers both and sends the midi between them. I have it set up according to this tutorial neuma.studio/rpi-as-midi-host.html . I’m going to try to cover as many midi controller options as I can in an upcoming video, so stay tuned!

What about recording pitch bend on the 101?
@BenCoeMusic3 жыл бұрын
So the sequencer doesn’t record pitch bend from a midi controller by default because it has only the 4 automation lanes and just puts note data in the sequence itself. But if you route pitch bend to a knob like I did here, and then route the pitch bend wheel on a midi controller to the cc# of the knob (I think the knobs are cc 80-83? It’s in the midi reference manual) then pitch bend should work and record the way you want it to.
