The MV-1 is a very flexible & I don't know why some give up on it so easily. Great to see this

just got mine not too long ago updated upgraded and ready however the instructions are confusing because some buttons aren't where they were before the update so it's frustrating and i'm trying not to give up. wish i knew someone near me who owns one so i can get some tips.

I‘ve had (too) many grooveboxes, I still believe the MV-1 has the best and fastest workflow for sequencing & producing, the closest to it being the Maschine/+. Some people don’t like the MV I don’t know why. Maybe the only problem with the MV is Roland’s initial marketing targeted exclusively to rap singers. This machine can do so much more, I make mostly electronic music with it. I wish it had at least a basic vocoder (not sure what this is doing in the SP404mk2 instead 🤔), would sound cool with the music I make. It would also have opened the MV to other genres. I recently acquired Zenology Pro in order to make presets for the MV as they haven’t unlocked partial editing on the firmware as they did on the MC line-up.

Check out the interview Roland did with the developers on verselab and they explain how they went about developing it. They even explain that the screen on the mv1 was top priority for it to be size it is

Long-time MV8K user. My main thought about the MV8K sequencer and it getting often misunderstood is: people with at least a basic understanding of music theory are going to find it easier going, because it often uses standard musical notation - crotchets, quavers and so on - particularly in step mode. But it is a beast of a sequencer. I'd still recommend it to anyone regardless of musical training - but just think this might be a main cause of the misunderstandings over the last 2 decades!

Is the sequencer on the Fantom X the same as in the MV8000/8800? From seeing videos it looks to be. But I've never had my hands on Fantom X, and have always been curious.

Unfortunately,No it isn’t. Maybe at the MV 8000’s release in 2003 they had similarities because they’re both Linear like Typical Roland Workstations of that era. Once Roland outsourced the development of the MV’s sequencers for the release of the MV 8800 & made the VGA expansion that made the MV’s different from any Roland workstations

I picked up a MV-1 because it was cheaper than the MC-707, and man I'm glad I did. It was so fast to pick up and use, quicker than MPC. I use it for techno though, and it's a beast--I just wish it had more sound design capabilities. I hope Roland makes an upgraded version
