Sounds great! I think this sounds much more natural and like a real acoustic grand piano than the previous modelled piano sound in the RD-2000.

Why do we have to pay an update to finally have a very good piano sound on the RD 2000 on the best Roland's keyboard with the great mechanical action of the keys? When rival brands offer not one but 3 high-end sounds in updates!!! What loyalty policy does Roland have at this moment when I feel displeased being that I have been a musician for over 30 years being all of them with Roland too... Why do I have to go on stage and use VST's or take a digital piano from another brand to get the piano sound I want?
@ablesam2 жыл бұрын
Physical models are more time consuming and expensive to develop than sampled pianos. All the brands you are talking about offer sampled pianos which are much easier to capture and develop, therefore the prices of those free expansions are paid by the sales of the various instruments they are made for. This case is different.

@@ablesam hey man that's fair enough, but I think the point here is that sample based libraries sounds good, while modeling sounds plastic, clickie, not that real.. So now that they have a good one to compete.. Should not be a paid one.. That's our point I think
@ablesam Жыл бұрын
@@dmcreativedesign3236 Modelling does sound real (when tweaked of course, the presets on Roland's RD-2000 and FANTOM are just plain terrible), trust me I've tried it. I had the RD-2000 for 3-4 gigs (wasn't mine but one of the other keyboardist's in that gig) and spent a good 30 minutes (and more lol) on it tweaking the piano sound. I started out with three presets I really liked (East Coast, Symphony hall and Contemp Concerto) and edited it for a Pop, Ballad and classical setting. Took a lot of time and experimenting to get where I wanted. Got my result, amazing piano sound which I'd say was more impressive than some of the sampled sounds I ever used. Very expressive and lively. But it took more time than I would've wanted to get there. So I get your point regarding the presets which suck at emulating a good piano tone. Totally valid and a fair point my friend. But at the end of the day, Roland is a business, and their business model requires us to pay a price for the new additions to the keyboard we own. Not a lot of people want to accept that and believe Roland is a nice company towards keyboardists/all their product users. But that is not the truth. They will develop good products, for a price of course. The original physical model in the RD-2000 wasn't that great I'll agree, so charging $149 is an excessive amount imo. $79-99 is more of a fair price. So they are getting greedy here with this kind of pricing structure, which is my complaint. Other than that no issues.

@@Ajaykumarr89 Preferably Nord (due to their unbelievable samples but you can slightly tweak things such as resonace and damper noise for more realism) more than Yamaha. While $149 sounds a lot - in the UK it's even more - £162.73 at the checkout...! The RD-2000 is a great keyboard in most respects, but the sounds are nothing to write home about. To make up for that, I already have access to some great pianos through various sampled VST/AU plugins and modelled pianos from Pianoteq. Of course it would be great if Roland has finally included a built-in piano that can hold up against the competition... but that really should have been part of the update. Before forking out this considerable sum, I'd like to know if I can get a refund if it's not up to expectations. Can't find T&C anywhere in the buying process and I won't buy at this price if it's no better than what's already in the machine. Sadly, although Yohan Kim's performance is great, and it all sounds lovely - there's no comparison with existing sounds, no explanation of what's been added in production (or not)... just not enough to go on. One other thing - while it was a nice surprise to find there was an update available, what exactly is in the update other than the opportunity to part with some cash? Can't find anything about bugs that have been fixed, features that have been added, etc. Anyone know?
@slowcatto2 жыл бұрын
Ok, so this is my new favourite (internal) piano for the RD-2000. Warmer and less electronic sounding than the stock pianos, and a fair selection of useable variations. UK users should buy direct from the US (Sweetwater sells it, for example, then you just add the activation code in Roland Cloud Manager)... works out around £125. Still surprised at the dearth of reviews on youtube and elsewhere.

@@slowcatto Wow, I didn't know you could buy the piano expansion from Sweetwater and save around £40. Thanks for the tip! And yes, there has only been Anthony Maplethrone's review on KZbin. I believe this is because it is a paid expansion and not a free one.

Kind of hard to use this demo as an example of what the actual expansion sounds like considering it is being routed through that mixing desk in the background and who knows what else that is adding color. Then add KZbin compression, etc.

Wonder what this is a model of? Is it a Berlin Steinway, an update of the Bosendorfer, a C. Bechstein?? I think there is a question of whether this a really good piano model... 1) Yohan is a great player---any keyboard he plays on will sound great.. 2) We have no comparison against the market leader in modelled piano (Pianoteq) 3) No side by side against some of the newest sampled pianos: Kurzweil Bristol piano, Casio Berlin Steinway etc. Nor do we have a comparison against the Kawai MP11SE. When the initial videos if the RD2000 came out, the piano sounded good in such official demos. Only in store was it obvious the sound wasn't competitive. Be good if Yohan can release a direct comparison between the RD2000 older models and this new one?
@dynoroad2 жыл бұрын
99% sure it's a Hamburg Steinway. It's the most readily available and the most iconic german/american piano. Also, this expansion for the RD2000 really has that characteristic Steinway midrange which is woody, barky and warm at the same time. Listen to the examples on Roland's Soundcloud and you'll hear it even better than what's shown on this demo.

The truth is just buy a kawaii controller and keyscape, pianteq, ravenscroft. These hardware pianos are a massive rip that become outdated. Roland is outing itself…..150 bucks buys you better sound than there flagship piano.. Roland taught me that. lol. I am going to skip this rip off and buy the best midi controller and save 5000 bucks by nit buying this or a nord grand that will just be replaced by house software.
