The ‘808’ originally referred to an a component used to make the iconic Roland TR-808 . They developed it using a cheap batch of pnp transistors labelled 808. They gave a distinctive fat tones, but it was a result of a manufacturing defect - which was why they were cheap. As it turned out once they had used up the faulty transistor supply they found the next batch didn’t produce the tone they wanted ( as they weren’t faulty) so they had to end production of their TR-808 and developed its replacement- the TR-809 using different transistors

nice one guys, bought mine a few years ago, 170 squids, still playing with it sampling vinyl playing back loops etc, good fun, a bit awkward to trim samples and occasional disc error etc but other than that a solid bit of kit, still usable today , keep the videos coming

Regards new channels and subs, there is one I have followed for about three years and up until a few weeks ago had only 200+ subs. One video later and they had 10,000! Another week on from that and they have 11,700. The production values are very low with grainy, low light videos that look like they are from the late 2000s. The only thing I can put my finger on as to why all the new subs overnight, is the videos changed from just "here is what I like to do" to then being "here is a one hour tutorial on how to do what I do".

@@takethefearoutthegear6229 It's a talented guitarist who also uses MIDI pickups to control synths, plus they also do finger drumming on drum pads. Mostly Jazz/Funk type style. www.youtube.com/@TorySlusher/videos and here is the recent video that caused the upsurge in subs kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnWTqZSMds9sa6M

3:40 "you can midi it up and play with a keyboard" - no you can't actually. Samples can't be played chromatically.
