Why he must touch and release knobs 20 times to move the knob 1mm ? Are they hot...? I see this many times on youtube. But good machines !
@corncobjohnsonreal8 жыл бұрын
he wants to move them a little bit at a time because he doesn't want to slowly turn them why do you have a problem with it?
@OrionB14988 жыл бұрын
'are they hot' lmao
@alunmauve8 жыл бұрын
People get mocked for this "Hot Knobbing" as it has become known. A different approach is to rotate the knob by locking the fingers, and wrist in place providing a single long lever to the elbow. This allows for a large slow movement at the elbow joint to be translated into a tiny angular rotation of the knob... People then get mocked for that. You just can't win! :)

It's an illusion to show that he's doing a lot of something when he's actually doing nothing. Actually, "Hot knobbing" helps to keep up with the beat.

I'm glad Roland came out with these little boutiques. Now I don't have to spend $4k on a used 909 that has somebody's hands all over it. This is a decent offering for those that missed the original 909 from the 80's. Thanks Roland, I'll get a copy before the year is out.

Its still about $800 CND
@ej1mshan8 жыл бұрын
~ £350 is still about $500 CND and that's affordable even for me. It takes awhile for us to get gear at the retail level here. My music shop still hasn't got the Volca FM in yet LOL.

I was on the verge of placing a pre-order too, until I found out that here in Sweden it costs nearly the same as the TR-8, which is a much more competent drum machine in every aspect. I really like the look of the Boutiques, but I suppose it is mainly for the people who don't like the look of the AIRA units.

My question, should I buy a tr-09 or tr-08? It's only 50€ difference. The tr-09 has more sentimental value to me since I love the Dutch 'gabber' sound, but the tr-08 has more options for the same price?
@wariusgaius8 жыл бұрын
What is the use of these new digital emulations when you got the tb-3 and tr-8 digital emulations allready? Does not make sense.
@robertsyrett19928 жыл бұрын
I think there is greater fidelity to the original interfaces that the boutique series is aiming for. I think in terms of sound you are quite right.
@SjN7HETIK8 жыл бұрын
i totally agree, this time i was waitin for a real reissue, full analog, not a tb3 or a tr8 in another case. So sad.
@alunmauve8 жыл бұрын
The point is not just the sounds (which are apparently closer than the TB3 and TB8), it is the exact same programming interface as the originals. I agree, it would have been much better to have analog recreations rather than emulations but the originals contained many hundreds of discrete components which are no longer available. How expensive would they have been to recreate in their analog form and how much further form the originals would they sound due to the different components and board layouts.? I feel the disappointment too.

"You are not staring at a monitor and the limitations it introduces actually increases your creativity." 100% true. Thats why a lot of people have the TR-8 and TB-3. But these don't add anything to what those machines/controllers deliver. In other words, the TR-8 and TB-3 make more sense then these.

Of all the changes they actually made, it seems like they should have made the cutoff and resonance knobs bigger and sturdier.

No offence to Leonard, he does great demos, but I can't watch it, it drives me crazy. Kink does it too - he makes great sounds, but I have to just listen to the audio. Maybe it stems from the complaints that a lot of electronic 'live' performance is just someone staring at a laptop screen. To me it just looks like they are way too hyped on Redbull or espresso!
@marike11008 жыл бұрын
"DJ fingers", some say, is done to give the move a sense of importance, when really it's just turning the knob. Kink and any one else who has major talent, it's no problem. When the tunes are basic, the preformer should probably just turn the knob.

I've got a TT-303 too, I was hoping to get one of these new TB-03's but I watched a video this morning of this guy programming it and the TT is much simpler.

It automatically went to the next note before you could put Accent or slide on the step. Then you have to go back into it when you've programmed your pattern and add them afterwards.
@alunmauve8 жыл бұрын
More outputs are available on the TR-09 if you use the USB audio (4) plus the main stereo outs. Voices can be panned. Not great for live but it also has a built in compressor to help out in those situations.
@Decode3038 жыл бұрын
So the USB will send audio 4 channels plus 2 audio outs! great
