It was Sanchez Graf rivalry that made me a tennis fan when I was a kid. Those were the days. Women's tennis used to be much more fun to watch and it has become less and less enjoyable after the turn of the century. In Sanchez's words: Its all power, power, power now.

It's more about athleticism and training methods, along with improved racket technology. Of course, someone like ASV would make a sweeping statement about the women's power game, since she was basically a moonball pusher.

two teenagers in a Grand Slam final... what a year. Graf was 19, Sanchez 17.
@JorgeJRO Жыл бұрын
Actually, they were four teenagers in the semis: Seles (15) and Fernández (17) were, respectively, Graf and Sanchez's opponents there. Martinez (17) also reached the quarterfinals. And Chang (17, too) became men's singles champion. Roland Garros'1989 was verily a youngers' tournament.

steffi took a long break to derail arantxa..what a cheat this woman was
@pgarciaAP Жыл бұрын
She wasn’t cheating. She didn’t need to cheat. Her offense usually beat the monotonous defense. Count up the finals between them. I found ASV to be childish at times questioning calls continuously to get under her opponents skin.
@rajusaha855 Жыл бұрын
ASV was lucky to win that match because of Steffi's menstrual cramps otherwise Steffi would have won two consecutive calendar slam. That would have been impossible to beat.

Petty Graf haters always somewhere to be found, even after all these years. It's been well documented why Graf took the break at the time, and no rules were broken, were they? Enjoy living in misery.
