How I catch shiners-Free

I show the ABC's of catching my own shiners! Hundreds of dollars worth I catch everyday and they are free. I don't sell any of them but rather use them myself or even give a few dozen to my friends. Again, I sell no shiners! I show how to chum them up, I explain the oxygen and special chemicals I use. Using the right equipment like the 10' Calusa cast net and a big water tank sure does the job.

I'm exhausted just watching him. The guy is over 80 years old. And who the heck is working the camera? That's hilarious. Look at the deck of his boat! The secret this guy has figured out about life is that he just goes and GETS IT. He doesn't get all wadded up worrying about anything. Roland Martin could be making pancakes and it would be just as interesting.

Yes please share some Ray Scott stories. I met him several times at the BJCC in Birmingham during multiple Classics. He once told me that if not for you, bill dance, and jimmy Houston he does not believe BASS would have survived.

I live in south florida. My method is find a Culvert, I use quaker oats, wait an hour, cast the net. Works pretty good for me

Very nice Roland. I do almost the same thing for my redfish. Been adding salt and prime for years. I also use rejuvenade or voodo dust with straight up ice. Get it nice and cool and Viola! Works like a charm. Along with pumps, filters and recirculates… yeah, it’s complicated but it works.

Oh that smell of grass and weeds on traps and nets, cant wash that smell off. I wear thick rubber gloves (dish washer gloves) when I check my shiner traps.

I tie a monkeys fist knot, throw out the rope behind my back and up. The knot goes into the water and hits shiner in the head knocking it out. The shiner floats to top of water and I get it with a dip net.

He just charges more for his trips and incudes the shiners. Because he hasn’t made enough money over the years and screws hard working people who do everything they can to catch shiners for a living. FWC needs to do something about this.
