Steve Stevens has got to be on the most underrated and unappreciated pro guitarists around. His ability to weave jazz into his work with Idol has always endeared him to me. The fact that he's a hell of shredder doesn't hurt either. They always say you may not want to meet your idols...Not so with Steve, I'll bet.

Such a humble, down-to-Earth guy and phenomenal guitarist. Never plays a note more than necessary, while still displaying his amazing skills and talent. This video was the reason I bought this guitar 4 years ago when I stumbled on a used example for sale in my local market. I saw the classified ad and had to search KZbin for info on this strange beast of a Strat that I had never heard of. : ) SS provided a perfect overview of all the capabilities this guitar had to offer. I still watch this video regularly just to remind myself of some of the sounds it is capable of when in the hands of someone with such technical mastery and god-like talent. So impressive! Owning this axe has vastly improved my playing simply because of the different styles I have found myself pursuing due to its versatility. I absolutely love this guitar, and it will probably remain my #1 for years to come. It provides hours of enjoyment in every session, and regardless of your mood (or your set-list), you have such a wide range of virtual instrument choices, tunings, and pickup combinations available at your disposal. Thank you Steve for your simple, chill, and informative overview of this fantastic guitar! Your technical mastery is surpassed only by your humble and straight forward approach to the demo. I was instantly sold, and drove 2.5 hours to drop $1k on a fine used example - and I have never once regretted my purchase.... or the effort it took to retrieve it. In fact, I thank my lucky stars that I accidentally “discovered” this guitar every time I pick it up to play! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Fender's version of this was called the STRAT VG in 2006 and 2007. I own one. It's a US made Strat where the Roland G-5 uses a Mexican Strat. Roland continued with the project and added newer sounds that my Fender does not have. I asked Roland if there was a firmware upgrade and got NO COMMENT. They later came out with a G-5A which used a USA made Strat but only came in red color (WHY THAT ROLAND????). ANd then they ended this project altogether in favor of a newer products like the VG-55, VG-99 (discontinued) and a new one supposedly coming. Sheesh! The beauty of the VG/G-5/G-5A was that you just plugged in.... no pedalboard or big buss connectors or hassle.... THEY SHOULD STILL MAKE THIS GUITAR!!! IT'S AWESOME. I'll never get rid of mine until the day I die. I wish I could upgrade my VG to the G-5A specs, but.... *sigh* BTW, Fender made a great little modeling amp that I have.... a GDEC 30 which was abandoned in lieu of their Mustang series. Damn! Can't leave good enough alone or just tweak it? And don't take this video down Roland. Steve is a master and I watch this all the time as an inspiration to do better with my VG.

I grew up in 60's,70's with amazing rock music, Paige, Hendricks, but Steve is right up there, him starting young and with acoustic for many years at first, I think that delay before electric made him able to really get a great sound and transfer that to electric, he's got great ear and inventiveness of sounds that fit rock beautifully.
