Wow, for a "technical rock dude" this is one of the best blues shuffle examples on the youtubes (minus the busy fills and flams!). No "Purdie shuffle" (which isn't a shuffle, actually!), no synchopated bass drum beats; he does a pretty straight ahead job. Thanks Matt or Greg or whichever one you are!

Great lesson! I love how you explain the difference between the tip and hsoulder of the stick right from the beginning of the lesson. Expalining that and when the rim of the snare being used makes understanding the accents so much easier. Thank you!

For everyone who is critical of the drum sound in this...you're absolutely right. I have the same setup (TD-12) and that sounds like one of the default kits. The module is capable of sounding way WAY better than you'd think from listening to the preloaded kits. I downloaded the VDRUMLIB software and uploaded some kit setups from around the net (easy to find using Google) and the difference is night and day. Just my point of view.

Nicely done. Great explanation. Interestingly enough, not all drummers here in Austin actually play a TXShuffle. I'm a guitar player in a trio and have just written a TXShuffle instrumental. I came to see how that rhythmic feel is going to carry through when there is no rhythm gtr playing the repetitive up beats, because to pickers, the up beats ARE the feel. My melody sang out loudly on top of your track. Great feel, Gregg! Thank you, very much.

Well, one thing about electric drums - if you don't like the sound, you can tweak 'em until you find a sound you do like. Even your acoustics are electric once the sound wave goes into your mic and head towards the PA speaker.
