Hi ya. Thanks for the video. I'm trying to replace my tube and crown for a 1500 date, seems like the same trick but my tube only screws in for like two turns? Am I missing something? Kind regards

Check for wear. If the case tube is worn, it is a much less expensive repair.

Thanks for this helpful video. May I ask something?. I know this is an old thread and it may not be seen, but what about older vintage Roleces (plural for Rolex? :):) ) Say, a 1940s Oyster Speed King. Are the crown tubes pretty much the same as these you show in the video?. I have my eye on an old Rolex, but the crown won't screw down. It likely needs a new tube. But...I want to make sure I know what to look for and if I can get one. I have a 1957 Oyster Perpetual and the crown is 5.3 mm across. What does the 6 mm refer to?. Is it the diameter of the crown?.

Would you recommend medium (blue) or low (purple) Loctite on the threads to the case to avoid backing out when unscrewing a tight crown?
@watchesandjewelry4 жыл бұрын
I use a clear waterproof silicone sealer. Not all loctite is waterproof. Plus I don’t like the way it looks in the case. Even though no one will see it. If you install the case tube correctly it will not back out at all.

@@watchesandjewelry I just bought a rough condition 1960 Rolex 1002 and the crown tube was shot. Today, I ended up having to use a easy out as the broach wasn't enough to break it loose and it didn't have the splines for the 5.3mm tool. I Installed the new tube, some light polishing and all is looking much better now for a 60 year old watch.

Sounds like a beautiful watch

@@watchesandjewelry It's quite cool have a watch form 1960 however as a purist I'm on the fence on what to do with the silver dial which looks original. It has some paint loss between the 12:00 - 4:00 edges that is noticeable and some other small spots. I'm a stickler for originality but trying to determine if I should try to source out a used replacement or leave as is. We've all ben there.

Ah! Ok, looks like you addressed my question. Now, who knows how to rebuild pushers and pusher tubes. Really glad you made this. I was reading a guy on watchuseek who sent in an old Rolly for a first service and they said to be water resistant again it needed to be "recased" and i thought "ROLEX can't rebuild and reseal their own watches??" My guess is, not can't, won't.

Where can I buy a gasket? Are there sizes to be considered?
@watchesandjewelry4 жыл бұрын
Casket.com or esslinger.com. They have the generics. Exactly the same as original. Stay away from new gaskets from china, they tend to be 50/50 on wear.

Wow, that looked easy. However, I don't think I'll ever take my day date apart. Unless I'm at the Rolex service centre in New York. With a watch make looking over my shoulder.

I definitely would like to see a video on how to remove a crown from a screw down crown and stem how do you separate the two pieces

Didn't seal the case tube - wouldn't that need something as well? At least plumber's teflon tape or something, right?

Thank you for teaching sir..i am working on case tube area to make my submariner water resistant again.
@watchesandjewelry5 жыл бұрын
Hi. If your sub is not water resistant, then the best fix is as follows. First replace the two gaskets in the post and the crown. Should that not work then I suggest changing the crown as it’s threads may be worn. Look for a video about this in the next couple of days. The last option would be to Change the post. The post however is stainless steel and less likely to have an issue. Also as a precaution, change the back cover gasket and the crystal gasket and re test. Sounds like a lot but that is the common steps I take to check for water tightness. Hope that helps

Hi, i have a blancpain villeret 40mm watch in stainless steel 2 years old watch and i noticed that it is stiff when i try to wind it. It has 72 hours power reserve. I have to pull out the crown in order for it to be buttery smooth when i wind it. It keeps excellent time BUT it is just stiff if i dont pull out the crown. When I pull it out, it is sooo smooth. Any idea on what could it be? I dont have warranty.
@watchesandjewelry2 жыл бұрын
There are many possibilities. First is that at some point the watch may have gotten moisture inside and that could sometimes cause the winding gears to stick a bit. Second, the crown, case tube or crown gasket could be failing or even a bit of debris could cause that. There are ither reasons but I would start by examining the crown and case tube.
@bslbsl60402 жыл бұрын
My friend said it had to do with the barrel inside. You see, when i pull out the crown and push it back in, it become very smooth to wind it. When 3 days pass, and i want to wind it, it is very stiff again. So I pull it out and push back in, in order to wind it smoothly. Keeps great time by the way.

What crown gasket lube / oil do you recommend for the watch? More than likely i will take it to you for repair, but whats your opinion
@erinschaumburg54035 жыл бұрын
You did not use any type of thread locking material like loctite.This tube would not pass a water proof test.
@watchesandjewelry5 жыл бұрын
I never use thread lock. It will make future repairs messy and difficult. The only time it should be used is when it is specifically called for by the manufacturer. In this case it is not. Tag watches do call for it as well as most dive computerized watches. But I recommend following all manufacturers service notes. Unless of course you try to fix an invicta, than anything goes. Lol. No. I don’t like invicta watches.

Some advice: No need for music over your narration. This isn't entertainment. It's instructional. The music works against what you're trying to do. At two points it almost overwhelms your narration. Please consider not doing the music on future videos. Thanks
