I think Rolex keeps the nice Daytona designs for the full gold versions (true panda, green and blue dials, meteorite dials, awesome). The Omega Tintin is surprisingly cool. Like the Daytona Paul Newman, it was unloved when it was available at the AD, then it changed.

Hi Marc, great insights (as always) . I always loved the white dial Daytona, but know I'll never be able to get one at retail or be able to afford one on the grey market so I'll just enjoy yours : ). I'll be happy just to get a 36mm Explorer. The price on the Explorer just went up nearly $800 too so it's a shame I couldn't get one all last year. Rolex really does have us right where they want us, don't they?

Bought mine for~ $12,300 in February 2019 from my AD after 2 customers ahead of me turned it down. Customer #1 bought a precious metal Daytona and wasn't interested. Customer #2 just blew the money on a Harley and said he wasn't interested. Customer #3 (me) ran down to the AD as fast as I could and bought it. My AD stayed late that evening just so I could pickup the Daytona before he left for the day. Customer #2 called the AD the next morning and said he changed his mind, but it was long gone!!! Customer #2 probably went on line and found out how rare it was to get the Panda from an AD and realized the value on the secondary market. I am SUPER glad I went to the AD the day before and snatched it up!!! :D

Marc, great video. I believe the reason for the white dial Daytona being more desirable is because it is easier to read. I prefer the black dial but it’s hard to quickly read at times.

In your video you mention the value rising to 55k or so in 2022, while I do agree with your projections, I do wish to mention, I also believe you’ll see the PM Daytona references (in all its variations) climb to double retail simultaneously. Mark, I bought my Panda three years ago, grey market paid $19,000 for it, was looking for my first Daytona and initially bought the steel bezel model first and it just did nothing for me as well, sent it back as I knew I wanted the white Panda, it is just a gorgeous watch on the wrist and perfect size and feel, the ceramic black mirror chrome bezel is just so mesmerizing with the white panda dial and gold accents, whenever I wear it to a social event it gets noticed with the occasional do you want to sell it? :-) Thanks for the great content!

I own a Daytona ceramic panda, and I agree with everything said. It’s an amazing timepiece, and it has the most exquisite feel on the wrist. Although, I didn’t buy my Daytona as an investment; I purchased it because I had admired the Daytona since I was in my teens, and it’s a token of my achievements.

I think it’s all about contrast. The white dial is a little more legible and those subdials pop. That Is the main reason it fetches a smaller premium than black dial.

Just like now 15-20 years ago the steel Daytona was very hard to get and went mostly to VIP customers while other models were much easier. Regarding black vs white I like both equally and I know some people that prefer black although the white seems to be more popular and like you said go for higher prices on the secondary market. In my opinion the Green Dial Yellow Gold Daytona is even harder to get and a real stunner and the AD’s may see 1 or none a year but the Panda is certainly a beauty. Congrats!

Mark, how would you define the Market Price for a watch. We have the AD price, Grey Market price, or somewhere in between. People say they will not pay more than MSRP, but when MSRP increases overnight they are still happy to pay MSRP as the Grey market price is higher - just interested in your thoughts. I like your analogy about the AD giving you money - that is exactly right and that's why my AD is very keen to make sure the watch goes to the right type of owner. I just brought a 116509 from my AD.

Hi Marc, My AD just delivered to me a BLNR/Jubilee about 4 months ago. I am now on the list for a LV Sub and after that she advises I will be on line for a Daytona. I really do not mind the black dial and am wondering if I should ask for that instead of the white dial if delivery may be faster. Everyone forgets famous PAM127 and histery for couple a years with crazy prices 3,4 times a Iist…at the end today nobody even wants to buy it…I am not saying this will happen to Daytona, but comparing it to a gold watch or some high end brands like Ap, Vacheron and Patek this price range is not sustainable, it’s a regular production watch that will be in production for many years ahead…so price must drop.

1:08 Rolex started phasing out that coffin a couple of months ago. They still use the styrofoam but no longer use the hard plastic. Now it's just styrofoam with a thin cardboard box around it.

All is relative Marc, I know people who gave crazy money for an OP Tiffany!!!! So if you ask me, I think Rolex Daytona is a good investment. I got lucky with mine, bought in my AD in 2019 after 3 years of waiting. I like to see my watch value go up, but it is disconcerting wearing this watch nowadays, my recommendation to you is to buy insurance for it. Cheers

I personally doubt Rolex produces 200k submariners a year as that represents more than 20% of their annual production volume. Rolex control the production numbers on those hot pieces to keep them hot in the market.

Just for the fun of estimation, if Rolex produces 1mil/year and there are 180 various models and configuration including the Cellini being produced equally, you are looking at 5.5k each model per year.

Hi Mark. Owning a 2020 116500ln panda bought at msrp, i now obtained a 116519ln. But i feel i have to let one of the 2 go. What do you think? I agree with your thoughts on this panda, and i can tell you, its a difficult decision. Economically it makes more sense to sell the 116500ln. You are right, its not a 50k watch. But then again, i have put only 12,5k in it. The 116519ln is also stunning, and i believe SS wil never surpass the PM in market price. But you never know. :)

I’ve come to really appreciate the Daytona as I’ve found there’s really no other automatic chronograph that’s 40mm and so slim. Really wish they got rid of the screw down pushers though, you can still maintain water resistance at well over 200m without them
