Rolex Explorer 36mm 124270 vs Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36mm 116000 Comparison

I'm thinking of buying my first high end automatic time piece. I don't know whether to start in the $2000 or $4000 range, though?

The 124270 has a 19mm lug width, not 20mm as you state at 11:03.

The explorer has the coronet at the 6. It’s just much harder to see with the inky black dial and the AR coating. It took me a while to find mine

Here’s how I finally saw it: the lighting is key. I have ceiling mounted/recessed lights. They’re at about 60% or 60 watts. And being directly under them and using the loupe, I can catch the coronet if I hold the watch flat and tilt 1 o clock downwards and bringing 7 o clock upwards. And just do they back and forth. The other way was under natural light outside about an hour before sunset but same motion.

Compare to the 126000 Op. I don't like the current 36mm Explorer. Narrower lugs at 19mm n aggressive bracelet taper to 14mm! Ridiculous. Looks like a dainty jewellery on a man's wrist.

I think they possibly had female market in mind considering it is also offered in 40mm. However, with the clasp it is 16mm, similar to the 116000 OP.

@@MediaPipeDream Agree. The 36mm and 40mm are being positioned as "his n hers". However, it hasn't stopped a small online movement of cultish man-children in various Rolex forums who are making out the 36mm is the last word in the EX1, while the 40mm is the biggest watch to have ever been made. Allegedly the 36mm is "truer to the original", which is actually the Smith De Lux watch Edmund Hillary took to the summit of Everest. That watch was 33mm with a leather strap and a fully numbered dial. Neither of the EX1 watches is a faithful reproduction. Thus, the watch should be chosen based on what fits the wrist and for most men, that will be the 40mm. It's all quite pathetic.

Thank you for the kind words! Your feedback has prompted me to give up all my worldly possessions and become a monk to focus on what is important life! Up until this point these two RoLeX timepieces is what my world revolved around. This is just what I needed to reevaluate my life which was ownership of these TWO!! ROLEXESES. Now I only have 1. I smashed the other. I will join the Dalai LAMA with his ROLEXeseses (he has a few) on the path to enlightenment. Jokes aside..... Bro.... It is a youtube video meant to go over detail and comparisons of 2 very similar watches. I agree the differences are minute. Considering by the performance of the video it seems that watch enthusiasts enjoy the level of detail I discuss. So people may want to see differences side by side. It is just a hobby. Now G-shocks and Casios that is what is really important in life.
