I don't know why the polar is more popular. Everytime I look at the black dial it gives me butterflies. I got the chance to choose the polar or the black dial last time, and got home with the black. I dont care if its resell 1k more on gray market, I wan't to wear my watch not flip it. Everytime I wear this watch, its honeymoon period all over again.

Another difference, the 216570 has a matte black dial while the 226570 has a gloss black dial.

Very nice watch. I bought the Explorer II myself last october...but I did prefer and purchased the Polar Dial.

Unpopular opinion but this (along with the white version) is the best SS sports Rolex. Maybe not as iconic as the Sub but to this day it’s the ONLY sports Rolex in the catalogue that stays true to the brands roots. It keeps the Rolex pedigree and character, the DNA of what Rolex meant back in the day. A sturdy, minimalistic not shiny “look at me” yet classy tool watch. Everything else has been blingified, including the Sub.

Polar is ONLY popular cos Rolex makes very few white dials (datejust, daytona and Exp2). But the newer black is more "dressy" due to full white gold accents and hands and the black dial is lacquered same as new sub. If ya want hype and resell , get the white dial..if ya want something more of a daily driver thats a little bit more dressier and less toolish, get the black dial.

He may have in the past, I didn't get that from this video. I think the context he uses it in is that Rolex makes their own steel. They may not have invented 904L but they're making their own steel in their own foundry, therefore its _their_ own steel. If a person was not aware of the foundry and all of that, I could see them mistaking it but he mention how its made here. Just my take.

The new black is more dressier as the dial is jet black (same as new sub) and polished white gold markers and hands. The white dial is completely matte.
