One correction, the last time a stainless steel Rolex Daytona at retail cost around $9,000 was in 2008; for the stainless steel bezel Daytona. The ceramic Daytona when it just came out was $12,400 or so. The gen 1 black ceramic Daytona has been falling drastically in the secondary market recently and wouldn't surprise me to see that fall below 20k by February or so.

It's also not thicker. It's .5 mm thinner actually and goes below the 12 mm thickness mark for the first time on a DT.

126500 has more white space, everything looks thinner but to me it looks more crowded. looks less racing* compared to the 116500LN

They are so close, but the 126 to me looks better proportioned. I always thought the bezel on the 116 was too wide for the case and dial. But it’s academic because I probably can never get one. On the other hand, if everyone is going to want the 126 black over the white, maybe there’s a slim chance…

Why does EVERY gray market dealer say the old Daytona is better? Oh because they don’t have any of the new ones to sale to you but want to get rid of the old ones. Got it. Don’t be fooled, the new Daytona is the one to get.

I had the old ceramic black and sold it after few months. You can’t read the time clearly especially in the dim light. Something wrong with the dial. I also didn’t like the bezel being like a doughnut on the watch. These problems looks to be corrected in the new one.

Hmmm doubtful, but maybe in some like 2 tones. 🤢 you can have them. But they won’t be selling under MSRP if that’s what you are thinking. Steel is real and will always hold. They make so few of them compared to all the other watches. I think you are and will see some softening of precious metal, but I still doubt you will see Daytonas under MSRP. If they do, then I will buy a lot 😂

To them These watches are like Timex to us. Almost disposable income. Let alone if you have a few hundred million. There’s a lot of money in the world to snap these up.

This is a really useful video. It reminds me of all the reasons I don’t care about Daytonas. If I was forced to buy a Daytona, it would be an Artisans de Geneve or MAD Paris. At least that way I know there was some handcrafted elements that justified the price and it would be somewhat less conformist. Unrelated point: I enjoy your Panerai videos much more.

I really hate those Daytonas (I think they are useless and unreadable) and can’t believe Rolex allows it to happen. Ferarri doesn’t. They come after you for fucking with their cars. But I could t care less. I love Daytonas, watches in general. But I’d buy a 3970G Patek for $150k before I bought a franken Daytona that’s ugly for that much.

What happened was the effect of speculation, driven by quantitative easing and massive gains in crypto. The Daytona is overvalorated and only new money will pay more than 10% over retail.. also, is hilarious that someone says "parking your money in a watch". people with that mentality are going to suffer a lot next year when the recession hits and all luxury items collapse.

Yeah if you’re a crayon eater you’ll pay this way overinflated price for a stainless steel Rolex. The two tone with real gold in it is going for $1,000’s less. Funny how resellers try every way possible to create fake hype to make money on a watch. There are no more PPP loans or employee retention credits. Stimi checks are gone and inflation is eating people alive. So this video is not going to age well as the pool of buyers who can afford 30K for a watch is about to dry up and dealers who paid over retail for these watches will be sitting on bricks they can’t sell. Ya heard it here first. If you’re overpaying for watches on credit hoping to make money on the spread don’t be surprised when you can’t move those pieces at overinflated prices and the banks give you a margin call.

the watch market will crash, the zeitgeist is moving away from ostentatious displays of wealth, it's considered in poor taste to wear any loud logos, a sign of low class upbringing and inner insecurities.
