is it good to buy watches in japan because of the weak yen currencies?

Hi I’ve watched a few of your videos and am looking to buy a new rootbeer, where in Japan would be a good trusted shop to buy and are the prices in your favour ?
@WatchFanHenry9 ай бұрын
What you’re going to have to do is go and visit the Rolex dealers at Nakano Broadway. You’re going to walk around and visit the shops on the few levels and it’ll be easy to see who has the Root Beer in stock and you’ll be able to compare prices as a starting point. The big high profile Rolex dealers like Quark and Jack Road Will and my opinion be quite trustworthy but their prices will be higher because they are high profile sellers. But there are other well established sellers as well not Broadway. It will be a trade-off between shop reputation and price. What I can tell you is not to waste your time going into the luxury brand shops that I’ve discussed in this video.

Hi Henry! I am looking for a oyster perpetual 41. is it an easy to get watch? Where in the world can i buy this watch without getting waitlisted? And what would be the estimated waiting time if i get waitlisted for that?
@WatchFanHenry9 ай бұрын
This is the exact same watch in any variation that I’ve been looking for as well for the past four years with no success. I’ve been asking at Rolex authorized dealers all around the world, and I’ve not yet been able to purchase one so I cannot answer your question unfortunately. You know just as much as me on the topic .. all I know is they’re unavailable to me.

How prevalent are counterfeit vintage Rolexes?
@sajonmohammed9 ай бұрын
Not in Japan

To be honest, it’s not my area of expertise. I know there are huge markets in Asia and Turkey for these fake Rolexes, and some of them are even super fakes. But I think as long as one purchases a watch from a long established dealer you will be able to avoid purchasing one in error.

I’m wishing you a good luck with your trip and I can’t wait to hear how it goes. I’ve never been to that city in Japan so I really can’t tell you anything about it. You’ll be doing the legwork and I’m sure you’ll have a lot to tell us.

Was this your experience at the Tokyo Rolex authorized dealer or in some other city?

To be a Rolex AD you have to buy x amount a year in watches. If you don't they will drop you. Several models are now mostly only available in the secondary market and at 2x (and more) the retail list price. To achieve this, Rolex cut production probably in 1/2 and for a period bought a lot of watches in the secondary market, thus squeezing prices up. Rolex is Swiss and the Swiss have a terrible reputation in finance - their largest banks have been fined by the US, German, French authorities for various crimes including promoting tax evasion, they stole a lot from Jewish clients during WWII, helped hide donor's funds (US, Europe, World Bank) given to African nations - they had thousands of African clients, and so on. Why buy a Rolex at 2x the retail price in the secondary market? When you can walk in any Patek Phillippe boutique and buy ANY of their watches with minimal or nil waiting periods. And Pateks are far superior to Rolex in movement quality, finish, value and service!

You do understand Patek is Swiss too right 😂

You make a lot of very interesting and accurate comments, which I very much appreciate. I will never pay more than retail for a Rolex watch so that’s why I guess I haven’t purchased one new from a Rolex authorized dealer since 1994. That happened to be from Selfridge’s in London. But I completely agree with you in that Rolex preowned is buying up Rolex watches and then selling them in their own stores for more than list price. It’s not something I would ever consider. I think it’s not logical but if they think it makes business sense then all the more power to them I guess. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the prices of the Rolex preowned in various stores. Yes, I understand that the watches are specially custom picked by Rolex and then they’ve gone through their own quality assurance inspections, etc. and there is a value in that. But to price the watches above the new prices is madness. When I was in Selfridges just last month, I was amazed to see the amount of square footage floor space on the ground level devoted to the Rolex pre owned shop. In my view the prices were through the roof so it’s not something that makes a business sense to me. We’ll see how long this Rolex pre owned lasts.
