There is a difference in owners nowadays: more than 50% of the Rolex owners own a Rolex "to show" or "join a mainstream trend". On the other hand, 100% of the Tudor owners own that watch because they are watch enthousiast and love the heritage of Hans W.

Very interesting point of view and very well phrased. I'm myself looking for a vintage looking piece which reminds me the 80's era, the sort of model Clint Eastwood wears in his movies, like "Absolute power" by example so I fully understand your thoughts behind the reasoning. My question to you though is : what would you have done if you had bought a Rolex 16233 in the first place (instead of your modern DJ) ? Would you still have bought the Tudor or swapped for it ?

It’s a good question. I’m going to say if the 16233 was an option, in all likelihood I still would have gone with the Tudor because I get the same vintage aesthetic, without the bloated cost of ownership associated with servicing aging Rolex watches and I know with certainty the authenticity of everything within my Tudor while there may be concerns or doubt with Rolex.

@@ALTAGEAR It makes sense indeed. I went myself for a 76213 as well (just yesterday) for multiple reasons. First, the functionality and aesthetics of the day on top of the dial. I have always been a fan of it but the problem is that if you want that feature in the Rolex range, you are forced to pay a lot just because the watches are made of precious metals. Secondly, the bracelet. When you look at vintage two-tone Datejusts, the binding between two links are made of gold and those bonds are hollowed parts. So the stress of the articulation relies on gold, which is a softer metal and that leads to excessive stretch or worse, failures. Here on the Tudor, it's better engineered. The gold is actually placed on the steady/center part of the link, which implies no stress on that part. The bonds between links is made of solid stainless steel, very smart system. And finally, the price of the package on its own when you consider it's solid gold and not a plating. All in all, Tudor nails it again when it comes to price/quality ratio (same with my blackbay 58) and this Prince date+day is the perfect example. It's just sad it was reserved for Asia and we have to buy them via C24. I just have a question about this watch : the movement. I read it's supposed to be a Sellita, but since it changes the day and date instantly like my 3135's, I guess it must be a high-end one. I was never able to get an accurate information about it. Would you have more details ?

Do you still keep your Tudor Prince Date Day? I bought a Tudor Prince Date Day in October 2021 and I am think about buying a new one with Diamonds. This is why I wonder if you still think the same regarding these legacy Tudor Watches

Great Video and I agree, in fact the ETA movements today are proven, highly accurate and cheaper to service. I just picked up a Tudor Glamour Date + Day two-tone and pictures do this watch no justice, Tudor’s are well put together watches and look remarkable in person.

People need to remember these luxury in-house movements are financial ticking time bombs as well. Once a decade you’ll have to pay hefty maintenance fees. A few ETA based movements mixed in the collection will take the edge off.

Destroy watches to prove they’re tools? They are... a dive watch is for diving for example.

Excellent video, you have a great talent. I find that those people whom have bought a variety of watches from affordable to entry luxury, understand the diminishing returns of luxury watches. The differences become minor and a novice could well be disappointed as the haven't experienced enough watches to know those subtle differences.

Hmmm I don't know how true this is. Likely mostly true but as someone who has owned watches from skx007 all the way to GMT master 2s, Explorer 1s, Omega speedmasters, Tudor Chronos, Oris, Hamilton, TONS of seiko sarx models and also my beloved SARB models, the level of quality is immediately apparent to me. I feel that It would be hard for it not to be even to a novice. The level of finishing and execution and even materials used is so readily apparent on say something like a seiko skx007 vs a Tudor chrono black bay or pelagos. There's just no comparison. Even as a novice, it's hard to see how this would be diminishing returns but I'm sure I'm wrong for some people.

Much of the watch buying hobby is the illusion of social status and upward mobility. There is a break point where paying more doesn’t get you more. Personally, the line between ORIS, Omega, Tudor and Rolex is quite thin. It’s all preference and what you think makes you feel special. Lange and FP Journe is where you start to break away into a true higher class of watch.

@@ALTAGEAR sooo true in terms of the illusion of status and upward mobility. You're very perceptive Alta, love that about you! I agree 100% that the line does start to thin around the Oris, Tudor, Omega, and Rolex range. This has been my exact experience. It's very readily apparent when comparing to a two or 300 dollar seiko (I absolutely love seikos regardless of price though) but as you stated, for sure starts too thin around the $2.5 to 5k ish mark.

It’s the hands on Tudor watches that puts me off compared to Rolex.

In photos I thought the hands looked awful as well. Then during a try on I saw I really like their distinctive shape.
