Rolex Submariner Date 16610 vs 116610: Is the Difference Worth Thousands?

Totally agree. Although the 6 digit sub is superior in many ways, the thicker lugs ruin the look. I tried both on and ended up purchasing the 5 digit sub. So much better looking.

I have both, I prefer the 5 digit sub, has much more character. Feels like the newer one is very sterile. I like the sound of the old one the way the metal makes sounds.

The 5 digit Sub is much more elegant looking IMO than the 6 digit super-case Sub. Still, given the choice I’d go with the latter due to the much higher quality. Objectively the 5 digit is not worth anywhere near the premium over the newer, better model, which is itself overpriced on the secondary market. But then the Rolex and especially vintage Rolex markets are insane anyway.

I had a 16610 and sent it back because it’s so light it feels fake. The links are hollow the 116610 feels 1000x better glide lock awesome and bezel 10x smoother. It’s worth the extra money. You can actually hear the old model clink around like tin.

Just got a replica 116610 40mm for shits and giggles. What's alarming is it came with all of the paperwork, box, warranty card, and even a receipt of sale from a c/card machine from a Rolex dealer in H.K. for 63,900 HKD (about $8,200).A replica is 1 thing, but this is set up for deception. Yikes.

116610 all day, it a beefier, bolder and much more masculine watch Some post here, state the 5 digit is more elegant! Which is an oxymoron, the Submariner by definition is a dive/sports watch. And without question, the 6 digits Sub has much more wrist presence. If you want an elegant watch, buy a Cartier Tank. Build wise, it's no brainer. With the 6 digit variant, gone is the hideous stamped clasp and useless dive extension function. No hollow link bracelet stretch and scratch prone aluminum bezel. The 116610ln also has the last and most refined version of the venerable caliber 3135 movement, and its place on Rolex lore is cemented as the last of the 40mm Submariners. Which no 5 digit Submariner can claim.
