Happened to me at a shop in Melbourne. Wouldn't even let me in to look around without an appointment....... This was 18 months ago at the height of the silliness though 😂

​@cosmonz was that the Hourglass. Been there myself. It is mainly appointments only. Been waiting 18 months for a watch. Got an Explorer ll Polar dial within 3 months from my local boutique. Hourglass is a waste of time.

Exactly right. The customer service experience is just as important to me as the actual item I'm purchasing. If they act like they are doing me a favor entertaining my interest in their product I would just as soon take my business somewhere else. At this level of merchandise they should treat you like a longtime customer.

Imagine if they open the store at all times to everyone. Imagine the number of people that would be inside!! It would look more like a supermarket let alone the safety concerns. Appointments show that you’re really interested in the brand then you make an appointment and dress well for it and try to get yourself on the waitlist for what you want. It’s a privilege to get one, not a favour you’re doing them. When there is high demand for your products then you select your customers based on parameters you want to set for that product. Other horologist brands like Patek and AP also demand appointments. Ferrari demands appointments although some of their cars are over a million and although there is a lot of people who can afford those cars, Ferrari still limits access to their cars. If you don’t understand the concept then probably watches is not your thing.

It's fairly standard with limited supply they aren't going to sell watches to non-residents. That's what I've been told in multiple countries which seems fair enough too.

Never heard of a company that does not want to sell their products. I'm afraid Rolex suffers from 'false exclusivity', their watches are not for sale everywhere.

No reason to treat customers in that fashion no matter how hot the brand. Years ago at Benneton in the 1980s, you could not touch the clothing in the store, only associates could show you sweaters, shirts, etc. Where is Benneton now? Im sure in Dubai you have grey marketers that can get you any watch in one day for slightly over msrp. Its possible in the USA.

Really enjoy the walkabout videos. Pretty shocked at this point that they won’t even put your name down on any lists. Went for a popular configuration DJ in the UK and got an offer in a month. I think they’re hanging on to this exclusivity thing as long as possible when in reality a lot of Rolex models are available at around or below MSRP on the grey.

I recently completed a trip where I passed by Rolex ADs. None had any Rolex that were exhibition only. Cities: Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, Rome, Lucca, Gibraltar, Ajaccio, and Las Palmas.

Interesting walkabout. I think your Dusseldorf ADs are hanging on like grim death to the idea that watches are hard to get. They are doing themselves no favours since they can only sell out the back door at less than RRP for many models and grey dealers will lowball them more as times get tougher. I did get the offer of a watch after a try on at a store in a provincial city here in UK. It was not what I wanted so I declined. Times are changing and soon the buyer will hold the whip hand again.

For sure about 50% of the Rolex watches that you see people wearing are fake now. Celebrities, sports stats, businessmen etc. Rolex has become a very doooshy brand and the clones are indistinguishable. The level of class by wearing a clone is about the same thing as buying an authentic one so why bother.
