While I enjoy Roll, I love Race. Roll will never replace Race. My wife likes Roll better, and with it's faster setup and tear down, I know I will play Roll more. One of the things I love about Race is figuring out what your opponents are likely to do then leech off that phase. In Roll, a bad die roll will throw that leeching effect, which is so frustrating. I also love Race's multiple use cards. I love the agony of deciding what to keep and what to use as money. As you said, the dice always come back, so I don't get the same tension. Finally, I like Race's clear cut phase selection. Sure, in Roll I can do the same thing by dice, but if I really wanted Explore but I rolled a lot of Develope dice, I should choose Develope otherwise I feel like I'm wastimg those dice, provided I have a Development tile to build. At least, that's my two cents.

Roll for the Galaxy is a brilliant game. Once you get the symbology digested, it runs so smoothly. There are so many avenues of strategy, and ways to operate your system. Easily one of the best games of 2014, and should be in your collection.

This is slowly climbing the ranks for me and is already probably in my top 10. The fluid simultaneous play keeps the game short and fast with any player count.

I enjoyed your play through of Roll and had my eye on this game since it came out last year. I play most of my games solo and therefore have to say that Gathering the Storm creates a fantastic solo variant of Race. In my opinion, slightly places it ahead of Roll for the time being until someone comes up with a solo variant. Nice job explaining the the decisions and planning involved with this game!

Got the last one from local shop yesterday. Hoping my wife will like this as she did not enjoy Race. Less military emphasis will definitely help. If they had some panda worlds that produced baby pandas and gardening (tokenado) she would play it every day.

A little late to this party, but I just saw this game at my FLGS a couple nights ago and looked into it. Glad to hear that you love it so much, I think it looks absolutely fantastic and I think there's a good chance I may be buying it VERY soon.

OMG, Richard, your brown eyes are really striking in this video. Fun video too! I was put off by the seeming complexity of the game, but you made it look rather easy. Thanks!

Ordered this on the spot after watching the full run through. I enjoy dice games alot and my group have enjoyed Nations: TDG alot and i just really thirst for that extra depth that Galaxy seem to have with its slight diffrences and that added mechanic of free riding others actions. Cant wait to pick this up next week! Thx for the run through!

Great run through and final thoughts! Have the game and I agree this game is amazing. I love how they implemented the different ways to mitigate your rolls. This is how you design a dice game! I really enjoy it as well as Pandemic the Cure.

Aahh man, this game is sold out in so many places and can't wait to get my hands on this one. Race for the galaxies was always okey / meh game for me, but never really turned down if some guys wanted to play, but this really seems up at my alley + I'm a sucker for dices :D

Great videos with this. I was looking forward to your run-through. I have one friend who understands RFTG. Do you feel ticket to ride type players could really pick this up? Between meeting up with my race buddy I do play race solo with the expansion to get use to the card combos. Does this have a way yet to play solo or a future plan for a mechanism? Thanks!

Andy V there's no solo rules built in, but i expect it could be tweaked to become soloable...

Hi Richard! Do you suggest Roll over Race for someone who doesn't own any of them? Which one do you consider as the better game? Thank you!
@rahdo4 жыл бұрын
we enjoy roll more. i think one could make the argument that race is the better game overall because it's a deeper and richer experience, but for us the fun factor of roll trumps design fidelity :)
@manos24954 жыл бұрын
@@rahdo I guess for us, a 4 member family with 2 kids, fun factor is also most of the times more important than a deeper game. Thank you!

I currently own Race for the galaxy, which I love! Would you say this game is better than Small World, as I wasn't sure if it's worth buying Roll for the Galaxy, as I all ready own Race? Thanks
@rahdo8 жыл бұрын
hmm, well i recently traded race away because we find we'd rather play roll. so i guess that lends credence to the "you don' t need to own both", so maybe SW is the better choice? :)

Rhado, I don't blame you on the rules mistake. I can't. I've been playing it wrong too. Tonight I'm going to reread the rules to confirm that. It makes Dictate much better.

Got this for $25. Played it once. Felt verrrryyyyy solitaire. Am I wrong?
@rahdo7 жыл бұрын
the interaction is all about anticipating what your opponent needs to do and taking advantage of that. if you fail to do this but your opponent does, then you lose
@justinrrizzo7 жыл бұрын
My wife was MUCH better at that than me. I did see that "indirect" interaction. Maybe it's not enough for my tastes. Still, a solidly designed game. If you ever get a chance, check out John Clowdus' games. He runs SmallBoxGames. Excellent, excellent 2P games. I'm confident you would enjoy Omen, Hemloch, and Relic & Stone. I just soaked up like 7 games in his back catalogue (OOP). He does have one available on his shop right now : Neolithic Advanced Cultures. I have it, but have not played it yet.
@freejunk29 жыл бұрын
This is a horrible game. I don't know why you need to make a dice version of a perfectly good game like Race. This game got just as much symbolism as Race and just as complicated but now it adds stupid luck into the game. Race is way better and it's much shorter to play than this game once you know the rules. Changing shipping/producing is stupid as well, makes the game less strategic. This game is too deep for a causal game and not deep enough for a strategy game, not a good mix!
@checkrazor769 жыл бұрын
You are wrong on every statement you just made. And not just your opinions but some factually wrong statements. You sound bitter that a newer better version of your game is out and you dont own it.
