Sepak Takraw (เซปักตะกร้อ) is a traditional sport in Thailand and many countries in Southeast Asia. FAAD or known as Roll Spike Kick is one of the most advanced killing skills in Sepak Takraw.

You are about to try this at your own RISK!!
-If possible, protect your hands, knees, and elbows.
-Master it on the *SOFT GROUND* until you are really good at it.
-If you get sore, stop and get rest until your body recovers.
-If you fail a jump, try to use your hands and your feet to land first.
This process might take months or years. I did it in 4 months.
Step 1: Low Jump Kick
-Kick your left leg up, followed by your right leg over your left leg, and land with your right leg.
Step 2: Kicking Leaves
-Like the low jump kick, but try to kick the leaves with your right leg.
Step 3: Fight Your Fear
-You got to let yourself fly backward, keep in mind that you are doing the Roll Spike, trust the ground, and know that you will land safely.

About me:
Just me trying to do what is called "FAAD". In Thai, it means "Fly Kick" or "Roll Spike Kick". I lived in Northeast Thailand. I started playing Takraw when I was little. It has been 4-5 years since I started doing jump kicks. I tried, but I couldn't do it back in Thailand. Now I can, I guess I went over my fear in 4 months of serious practice.

Thanks Macky, ตอนนี้พี่นัทพยายาม ค่อย ๆ ฝึกมาเรื่อย ๆ เท่าที่เวลาจะอำนวย มาเป็นปีแล้วครับ จนตอนนี้เริ่มทำได้ ตอนเอาขาขวาลงพื่นก่อนขาซ้ายได้แล้วครับ ขั้นตอนต่อไปก็ต้องพยายามเต๊ะให้สูง ๆ ขึ้น ขอบคุณ Macky มากที่ทำให้เกิดแรงบันดาลใจ อยากกลับมาทำตามฝันอีกครั้ง แม้ว่าตอนนี้จะอายุเกือบ จะ 50 แล้ว แต่ก็อยากทำจะทำให้ได้ แล้วยังไงจะมาเล่าให้ฟังต่อไปนะครับ

Hey, I know. But I also told you that I rarely do stretching. You can just jump up and down, run a little bit, spread your legs a little bit,.. etc. All in all, you don't need any of that to achieve the Roll Spike Kick. :) I'm very busy lately with work, school, and stuff. Hope this helps you a little bit. I will do definitely do stretching in the next takraw video, but I don't know when I will be doing it. Cheers!

@analyticengine44 It's a part of the process. Next time, you know that landing is important. Now your left hand will be recovered soon. Next thing, try not to land with your left hand. Kick your left leg up high and hard. It helps you go up higher. So that you have more time to land. Peace!

@CoastaMonsta However for that matter, you can always try it out, keep doing the low jump kick. It will get you there somehow, you will figure it out how to keep one leg on the air, then land with the other leg, and jump higher. Whenever you skip the low jump kick and try to do the last step (the complete rotation which will not be completed), you will end up getting hurt. So, like I said, low jump kick and getting higher and higher. Peace!

Sigh, and there, you know the cause of this terrible thing. I hope his arm is not broken. If it's just hurting, then he will be just fine. I had that too, but I never went to the doctor for such accident. This is why I'm telling everyone to do it and master it on the soft ground before you are sure and confident enough to do it on a hard ground. Hope he will get better soon.

It's ok to land with hands first. And it's also normal to get sore. Just keep doing what you're doing, but you have to think about how to make it better every time. To land with your foot first, you must not be sore, so take a break. And you must be strong and fast. Like I said, keep doing it. and you will be strong and fast.

All you need is experience and strength. To get them, you have to practice. When you practice a lot, you will get the experience. When you get the experience, strength will automatically be there by then. How long have you been doing it? Just so you know that it takes more than a year for most Takraw players. Only a few that can make it as fast as a couple of months.

Yes, it can hurt you. But if you do it right, it will not hurt you much. Follow this: 1. Practice on the soft ground. 2. Try to really master the low jump kick. 3. Kick leaves more often before you kick the Takraw ball. 4. Try to win your fear by letting yourself flip backward. You will feel so much safer on the soft ground so that you won't be worry about getting hurt at all.

Keep practicing. If you get sore or tired, take a couple of days off and then come back to practice. Try to kick higher by kicking higher target.

พะยายาม เตะใบไม้ที่อยู่สูงขึ้น ฝึกไปเรื่อยๆ ถ้าฝึกจนเหนื่อยล้าก็ให้พักสักวันสองวันแล้วค่อยกลับมาฝึกอีก

วิธีนี้คือ ขาขวาจะไม่ข้ามขาซ้ายแล้ว มันจะข้ามตัวเราไปเลย คือขึ้นตรงแล้วตัวหมุนกลับหลังเลย ตั้งลูกให้ตรงไปข้างหน้าและใกล้ตัว เตะขาซ้ายตรงไปข้างหน้า แล้วตามด้วยขาขวาขึ้นข้ามตัว อันนี้ต้องมีความชำนาญและความกล้าสูง (ไม่แนะนำให้ทำถ้ายังไม่เก่งกับการฟาดแบบเฉียง) อย่าลืมห้ามทำบนพื้นที่แข็งจนกว่าจะเก่งและลงแบบปลอดภัยทุกครั้ง เวลาลงไม่เป็นท่าแนะนำให้กลิ้นไปตามลมเพื่อหลีกเหลี่ยงการปะทะกับพื้นครับ

Pffft, hey mac. I just had a very bad landing last weekend on my practice. I almost got the average level of elevating my left knee for the best coordination of my right leg which I am using for the spike. Glad to have your response lately.

ปัญหานี้แก้ได้ที่ใจครับ ลอฝึกบนพื้นที่ไม่แข็งแล้วคิดไว้เสมอว่าขาซ้ายจะลงก่อนขาขวาไม่ได้ ถึงจะต้องเจ็บตัวต้องยอมครับ................(ถ้าไม่งั้นก็อย่าพื่งขึ้นสูงซิครับ เอาขาขวาลงก่อนขาซ้ายให้ได้ก่อน).................เรื่องตั้งลูก ก็ลองตั­้งลูกให้ตรงศรีษะหรือเฉียงออกซ­้ายนิดหนึ่ง...............นอกนั้นก็ขึ้นอยู่กับความถนัดของแต่ละบุคลครับ

@patthanarut อันนั้นมันขึ้นอยู่กับความชำนาญและความแข็งแกร่งของร่างกายครับ ซ้อมไปนานๆ เดียวก็จะเตะแรงขึ้นทุกทีๆ โดยที่ไม่รู้ตัว ( ตั้งลูกให้เหนือและใกล้บริเวณศีษะ ไม่จำเป็นต้องตรงครับ แต่ให้อยู่บนแถวหัวไว้ จะเสียวๆหน่อย แต่ก็จะเตะโดนบ่อยขึ้น ) อันนี้ตีลังกาเลยนะ ระวังหน่อยหละ ความพยายามอยู่ที่ไหน ความสำเร็จอยู่ที่นั้น!

Well, yeah. I believe you're right about how it takes time to master it. I been doing it since I saw you're tutorials about a month ago. I've been in my province every weekend, doing some practice in the basic twists and also mistakenly falls every time I make it high enough.

ก็ถ้าจะฝึกแบบตั้งตีก็ให้ตั้งขึ้น แล้วก็ขึ้นตีคับ โดยไม่ต้องเป็นห่วงว่าจะโดนไหม และก็ไม่ต้องไปพะยายามรอที่จะแต่ลูกบนอากาศเพราะจะทำให้เสียเวลาลง คือลงไม่ดี เอาพูดง่ายๆก็คือขึ้นเตะให้ครบรอบก็พอ ครั้งนี้ไม่โดน ครั้งหน้าเอาใหม่ ok นะคับ

I watched a skilled Takraw killer in my village back in Thailand. And I watched Tony Jaa when he jumps and kicks the light bulb in the movie Tom Yum Goong. The rest, I just try to do the same by copying, and also learning it myself.

@sharwin96 Keep doing the low jump kick. Don't go too high or don't do it with Takraw ball yet. You've got to go step by step. Give it all you have when you make a jump.

@almanoful Practice with Takraw Ball? Well, you basically try to kick the ball using the Roll Spike style. You will know how to do it when you practice a lot.

i start learning to roll-spike by practicing backflip at the river and on the mattress..then i start to it on the grass field..soon i able to do it on the hard surface.. to be able to do it u shold try to do high kick first like a teakwando kick first..soon when you mastered the kick..u try to do it by jumping high dan kick and rotate your body...do it constatly and u can find some adjustment...

@jhocky123 :D Man, I guess you are left-legged, too? I knew it, someone might ask me this. Ok, I think you have to reverse from right to left. It might be easier for you to do it that way. I might be making another video for this one and add some extra things that I was missing in this video. However, swing the upper body to the left, then quickly kick the right leg up and follow by the left leg swings over the right leg. Remember, right leg stays on the air. Try it. This thing takes time.

ahaha It takes time. Don't be discouraged by it. Do it little by little. Play around with it, and build it up. If it's gonna take 5 years, let it take 5 years unless you need to do it, then you you'll have to beat it up. :D
