For anyone with a vinyl board, you can iron it to remove the bend marks. Just make sure to put it facedown and use the iron in low temperature with no steam.

@@tyn7443 I’ve tried it and it does help but kind of fade the colors even though I was going behind the back part. I decided to order a mouse pad kind instead of the vinyl leather roll up. Mouse pad kind work great and stay flat when roll out. Hope this answer your question .

@@tyn7443 I got the same thing too. Vinyl with triple weight set pieces. If I was you, I wouldn’t roll it up and put it away, if wanna put it away, leave it flat and leave pieces in bag. If ever order on chess again, get the mouse pad kind.

I prefer the soft mouse pad, because I play outdoors at my beach park often, where it can be quite windy and because it's heavier, it doesn't flap up from the wind. Plus, having the extra thickness underneath, makes it more sturdy and plyable on a picnic table. This, along with triple weighted pieces, are a perfect match for outdoor chess. Also, the pieces slide nicely on the silky fabric, much like a regular computer mouse pad. The only real cons with owning one, is that the color does tend to wear off after much play. But for the price, that's not a big deal, just buy another. One other possible problem is staining, like from a spilled beverage, or just plain dirt. But in that case, perhaps oxyclean would do the trick.

The only downside to the Silicone is that the pieces can feel a bit sticky when sliding them like say your Bishops going down a diagonal.

I mean you can fold it but i dont think you can scrunch it up and twist it around like he did, i roll mine personally and have not found any issues with around 9 months of heavy play (i play in a club after school and sometimes on saturdays)

Only downside to a silicone board is that the pieces don't slide easily. Some of my friends that I play with think it's annoying. Other than that, I really love the fact that I can fold it up and tuck it into my backpack.

You're honestly not supposed to slide pieces around - but I get your point. A lot of people say the same thing. I think the ease of use and storage outweighs that!

Silicone boards in my opinion are the worst kind on the market. Hair magnets is a better name for these boards. You got pets. Good luck keeping their fur off of your board. Not to mention the pieces do not slide well on silicone boards. Being super thin and not allowing pieces to slide. Your weighted pieces are going to bonk on the board time and time again. The next thing you know your pieces are rattling. Their weights have come loose and now you have a whole new issue. As long as you keep your mouse pads in a mailing tube inside your tournament chess bags. You will not have issues with fading of color and is a better way to store vinyl boards as well. My advise is to go and get a mailing tube from Staples for a couple of bucks. They come in 2" X 24" so you will need to cut down the tube down a bit. Once you do that, place the tube into the fabric rings inside your bag and you have a sturdy home for you chess board. This is the best way I have found to store roll up chess boards.

Silicone boards catch and hold dust, pet hair, and other detritus. Yes, you can run them under water to clean, but if you are at a tournament or even at home it is a pain.

I don't like how the silicone boards get dirty so easily. With vinyl you can just wipe of dirt and dust with your hand. Can't do that on silicone.

mousepad and wood are still king! Silicone does not let you slide pieces and can still warp and not lay neatly also it can stain and if a dark stain you cannot remove it with washing it gets like embedded in the rubber

Silicone boards do not stay completely flat like mousepad boards. Even the board in this video has a bump on the sides around the d and e files. I like them, but I prefer mousepad boards.

Is your vinyl board curling or not sitting flat? Lay it print side down on a hard surface and use an iron and press hard and glide slowly with medium heat across the board. A few passes and it will lay flat. Caution - some on some boards this may warp the color printing

Silicone is better in every way, except you can't slide your pieces. Which is a big deal, if you look at videos of all the top players they all slide pieces one time or another. Not to mention sliding happens when adjusting pieces. The grippy nature of silicone doesn't allow sliding with the felt bottoms.

They have a ton of set designs to choose from but a alot of them can be quite pricey as you might image with wooden sets. I have a wooden set from them that i like very much, BUT i would not recommend them for plastic sets though the quality control/finishing is very very bad on the set i bought from them. I have contacted them about it and if they actually make it right I’ll edit to update.

vinyl boards and plastic men are the most boring, basic chess set ever. even the mousepad I think are shitty. In Serbia they use wood style leatherette rollups with wood pieces whenever possible. I would say they have the best looking club equipment in the world. wood chessmen certainly inspire me to play better.
