Silicone Rubber Chess Pieces From Chess House - Comparing Different Budget Friendly Chess Pieces

In this video I sit down to compare several different tournament size chess sets, and also talk a little bit about my new purchase from Chess House, the Silicone Club Chess Pieces, an unusual purchase for me. For those of you interested in chess pieces made out of anything other than wood or plastic, these silicone pieces are definitely quite a find. I've always been tempted by the silicone sets. Being unbreakable and completely waterproof (and maybe even oven-proof?) is a definite selling point. I wish they came in more designs, like Dubrovnik, Zagreb, etc. and in various sizes. I'd also like to see an option to have them weighted. Hmm, as for their use in prisons, that's interesting. But I'm sure the more inventive inmates could find ways to make them deadly, such as jamming them in places they shouldn't be :-) - EDIT: as for health concerns, too much of an obsession with chess can definitely cause *mental* health issues! And even financial issues if you become a collector.

I actually was looking for more variety in plastic sets, I too would like to see especially the Zagreb plastic set, I think if done well those pieces would be a great buy. As far as stress goes, dealing with stress of life is definitely something we have to do as long as we live, no matter who we are. Thanks for watching! Thanks for commenting as always!

Nice video Al. Even the cheaper chess sets need to be shown, really like them. I'm impressed with the first, larger plastic chess set, it's basically a luxury chess set but in plastic, even on a nice, expensive wooden board It wouldn't feel out of place. But even the others are really nice, love the sylicon one. Keep up the good work!

Thanks a lot for a positive comment! I agree that the larger plastic sets look well and play nicely, and for a fraction of a price of what the same size wooden sets go, seems like having a nice plastic set should be in everyone's chess collection!

Thats a great question John! That's what has been going through my mind as I was reviewing this set. Its not a very expensive set and I guess perhaps its intended to be used in particular situations and not really made to be long lasting! Thanks for watching.

Thanks, the breathing exercises help me to slow the thoughts down, sometimes the brain is racing and needs to slow down a bit, especially for a chess game.

I had a silicone set once but I just couldn't get to like playing with it. There are benefits for it but not for me. They were designed to be used in prisons. Since plastic and wooden pieces can be turned into shanks. They banned those types of chess sets. However with silicone. It can never be turned into a shank.

I keep a silicone board and pieces set in the car because it's lightweight, won't be damaged in the summer heat, and looks good. I never loved how my vinyl board would curl up over time and not look as nice on the table.

I am on the same thought as you about silicone boards, you can't readily slide chess pieces on them! I think they should make more dense silicone pieces, to where it feels sturdier.

Silicon has pores? It's used to seal areas around sinks and bathtubs, I don't think water can get inside of it.

I see the set you are talking about it and it seems so far I only see ebonite boxwood! I know some sets are only made with specific wood, but I'll be on a look out if I see one!

@@AlSuChess I'm a small collector, I have around 50 highrange chess sets, and ironically the set that I use to play blitz, is the "interzonal" (by hos) it is almost perfect for playing blitz, I like it so much that I hope to find it in genuine Ebony. I got a similar one of Rosewood by wholesalechess but the knight is much bigger and the Ebony that they have in the chesshouse, the Rook is very small. Thanks for comment
