Love the show so far! Everyone is so in character and i can totally visualize the team and action thansk to the GM'S great spotlighting. My only nitpick(from watching the first 50 min) is that when players want to gather information they need to have a specific question. "I want to see what I can find out about the meeting place" and "I'd like to know about what we might be transporting" aren't specific enough. Something closer to "How secure is the meeting place?" or "What are The Crows having us transport?" are the kinds of questions you should ask when gathering information. Besides that everything looks like it'll smooth out as the game progresses, just needed to get that off my chest!
@MarkMassengale5 жыл бұрын
I noticed this as well. Also, there isn't necessarily a need to spend a downtime activity to gather information.

I think there are some misunderstandings about group actions, it is not that someone rolls, but it is that everyone participates rolls. Group actions have high potential for success, while also almost always giving some stress compared to solo actions. GM seemed to have some weird conceptions about fine weapons, tier and other things that determine effect. I think GM kind of forgot that players can always resist consequences of their rolls. Some things came through as 'this happens', so players probably felt like they didn't have a say. When they first met foghounds, 'they will remember you' line seemed weird as player had succeeded with a 6 on the roll and there was no devils bargain. If GM felt like 6 wasn't enough there, drop the effect to limited instead of giving consequences on success. Choosing actions during battle felt very restrictive and mechanics first. GM seemed to force players to certain actions for what they were doing.
@tomkeegasi Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I noticed that as well. I personally was looking for an actual play of Blades in the Dark to get a feeling of how the action roll differs from other systems like DND, but it seems like the DM either ignored or forgot that players should select the action to be used. The whole idea of the action roll is for the GM instead to ask the players for their goal and present them with a threat as not to enforce a specific action with his narrativ, unlike eg. DND where players describe actions which the GM then translates into rules (aka attribute or skill rolls). Oh well, I'll look somewhere else then. Nevertheless props on the RP and costumes anyway... 👍
@LotsOfBologna2 Жыл бұрын
@@tomkeegasiThe way he ran actions are actually correct according to the rulebook. In the rulebook area describing actions, it always says "you can use ____ for this action, but ____ would be better". On a separate section, it said that GM's should allow freedom to pick rolls but the GM can adjust position & effect according to what these actions actually do. What this GM ran is the correct application of those rules. What you sometimes see on other channels is game-breaking foolishness by allowing substitution of actions. Like wreck is NOT the equivalent of skirmish.
@LotsOfBologna2 Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that great or extreme effect makes the problem entirely disappear, standard effect may require a couple cracks at it and limited effect may only offer a slight bit of breathing room. With standard effect, I would have actually had them go away in the event they paid a one coin tax... and further persuasion would be needed if the PC's wanted to drop it down to the level that they simply sailed away. The GM let them off too easy.

Is it now weird for me to say in the future I want the R4I gang to use the system this rpg uses to make a frost punk flavored roleplay? I mean yeah the game I speak of doesn’t exactly have any combat oriented action but I could see a story about oh I don’t know a scouting party sent from the city looking for stuff just a thought
@Pixie1001.5 жыл бұрын
I think playing as a resistance group is slightly larger hypothetical generator, running petty crime and backing various players to see decide who'll manage the colony. Blades doesn't handle adventures super well, since the game frames everything you do in media-rez, and doesn't have actually have any dedicated combat rules and is intended to be played in sandboxes. I guess each score could be a different expedition (there's similar hacks that substitute scores for dungeon delves) but idk if that's really the strength of the system.

EE is out of his comfort zone for once, which isn't a bad thing. He's usually in Margaret's position offering help on rules. They'll talk things over afterwards, clear up the misconceptions, and improve going forward. She was asking him about hitting multiple targets with a higher tier roll, so it's not one-sided.

@Alfonso Razo Meant. As, intended by the game designer. Sure you can change it. But make changes based on being informed about the intent, so you make an informed decision. EE said that the survey is usually a Downtime action, which is not true unless he makes a house rule.
