Roger Gracie once said that BJJ has evolved by leaps & bounds. He says 20 years ago BJJ competitors were able to train BJJ as a hobby and still be champions. People could have a normal jobs, train BJJ and still walk into tournaments and win. Today, BJJ competitors are like professional athletes. They have workout regiments, training camps, nutritionists, and train BJJ from morning to night 7 days a week. You don't get to Bruno Malfacine's level by training 3-4 times a week. You have to live it.

I don't think anybody who is not themselves an advanced belt ( brown or higher ) can criticize Jake. I don't know if he is a legitimate brown belt but even if he is, it's quite possible that he would be outclassed to the extent shown. It's one thing to roll with the higher belts at your academy over months and years, where you get to know their preferred techniques and likely quite limited repertoire and another to roll with the guys at the bleeding edge for the first time, where new technique is being invented. He is just out of his depth the way 99% of jiu jitsu practitioners would be against a world champ.

I honestly wish Jake would learn Portuguese and just subtitle this one. Bruno is a thoughtful and intelligent guy but he cannot shake off a very thick accent. Reminds me of a Brazilian I once tried to teach English to. He was a civil engineer and wanted to pronounce the word "digger" but it kept coming out "ejigger". He never did crack it. Pre-empting attacks, I do speak very fluent French and Spanish so I am not some lunatic anglophone. Bruno is genuinely hard to understand even by Brazilian standards. That said, he is certainly having a go, unlike almost all Brazilian MMA fighters.

What does Bruno suggest in the end? Sounds like great advice from the few sentences I got from it

He say's so that the opponent can't back away or get into side control on that side. It makes sense that it stops them from backing up because that would be the first thing people would do at that point is strip grips and back up

I'm trying to learn this move... Why is Bruno saying to take the step to put the foot on the hip at 9:13? What counter is that step preventing?
@TheBjjninja8 жыл бұрын
breepreta it is a single x guard concept to control that left leg. The x guard position prevents opponent from pulling out the left leg. This is more of an x guard sweep than spider sweep.

Did Caio have any proof that he was on steroids? I have tried looking for more information but came up with nothing. It seems like slander to me but that is based on my limited knowledge of the situation.

I've got a question if someone can answer it for me. I was trying Bruno's spider-guard techniques the other day and the problem I ran into was when i posted the inside leg on the ground and started to pull the guy forward, he immediately dropped his weight and knelt on the ground before I could bring my leg up to put my foot on his side. Any recommendations?
@TheBjjninja8 жыл бұрын
Joe Cressman kneeling on the ground is even better for you playing spider. Switch to a regular spider guard sweep if they drop their knees.
