Eduardo, thank you for taking the time to make a video all about the Rolleinar lenses. There's not a lot of resource type info out there on these expensive little devils. I recently picked up a Bay III Rolleinar 1 for my GX. Pretty niche little piece of glass, but when the stars a line, it's wonderful!

nice photos, but also tell your model, doing MACRO work, stamps, products, this is normal subject distance; for instance, with my Nikon D700 and the F-mount 105 mm 2.8 macro lens with the PN-11 extension tube attached, this is as close as you can get too.

one point, you NEED to get the lenses mounted correctly, aka on the right one, top /bottom, as the top one has a special paralax correction (tilt down) calibrated to the new focal length/closest focal distance, so if you mix -up then tilt will be applied to the picture, and NOT to the viewfinder, as designed.

Hey, thanks for the Rolleiflex videos. I got my camera last year and stumbled upon the rolleinars at a good price. I haven’t shot much with the Rolleiflex and I’ve been a little frustrated in trying to incorporate it into what I do. I still haven’t figured out the application, the square format, The backwards viewfinder, and how do I make that work for my photography. I’ve been inspired by your videos and now I’m looking forward to trying it out again. I love what you did with Ektar in the Roleimeter video. You videos are inspiring. Thank you

Heck yeah ! I've purchased a Rolleinar 2 for my 2.8C on Christmas, haven't had the opportunity to shoot with it yet (Big exams and now confinement) but I think I'll give indoor shooting a chance ! ^^ You didn't mention it in your video but nature photography benefits greatly from Rolleinars, I shoot a lot of trees / flowers thus the Rolleinar 2 was a great choice imo. There are some amazing examples online of the Rolleinar 3 being used for flower photography, it is simply gorgeous how much detail you can get, I'm thankful Rollei made such a nice kit as the 1 and 2 would have been quite enough for portrait photographers as you demonstrated. Anyways, very entertaining and informative video as always, Fran's portraits came out splendidly ! Stay safe you two ^^

Have you ever tried removing the remjet prior to EXPOSING the film? There are few videos about kodak vision already, fewer yet about remjet removal before develop, and none about removing it before exposing. I have recently done that and the results are pretty similar to cinestill, so I'm wondering if anyone else has done that :)
@edpavez
@edpavez 4 жыл бұрын
Removing the remjet before exposing would require a darkroom, then hanging the film until it gets dry and then respooling the film into 120 spools and resticking the backing paper. I don't have the space or time to do that. Would you say the result is different from removing it after?

EduardoPavezGoye I did it in my bathroom, so it’s enough to have a room with no windows I would say, and I didn’t get the emulsion side wet whatsoever, because I’m sure it’s gonna affect the images. I wiped the other side, so I didn’t have to wait either, I have an expired Kodak vision 500t from 2004, what I got is pretty much like an expired cinestill with a sensitivity of 100asa. The red halo effect is equally pronounced in the images I got as if it would be with cinestill. If I find the courage to record a video about it, I will :)

Technically, a Rollinar is not a filters, it is a diopter, as the Rollinar does not change the qualities of the light entering the lens. They aid in magnification only.

Parallax correction is only for framing. What you see in the viewfinder is NOT what you get on the film. It's more or less what you'll get in the final image. You can see that very easily. Remove the back and put a piece of ground glass, then compare the images from the viewfinder and where the film plane actually is. You'll see the whole thing is off. The closer you get the more you'll be off. The Mamiya has an attachment that will raise the camera so that the taking lens is where the viewing lens was. It's pure physics at that point.
@stevenhightop2518
@stevenhightop2518 4 жыл бұрын
As a long, long time Rollei user, I disagree. The Rollei's use a hinge on the ground glass moves it back and forth to correct for parallax. Rollei’s are accurate. Also, the top of each Rolinar has a little dot on it that needs to be mounted so it points to the top. The glass on the Rollinar is slanted to the bottom, which is how it helps correct the parallax. They are very accurate.
@danielrois4548
@danielrois4548 4 жыл бұрын
@@stevenhightop2518 I've been a Rolleiflex user for a long time too. Just try the experiment I mentioned above. If I could post pictures here I would and show you my results. The closer you get the more you're off. It's pure physics. One lens is physically higher than the other one. The lens that goes in the viewing lens tries to correct for it but it doesn't do the job 100%. Don't let years of usage get in your way, try the experiment, very simple to do. The ground glass doesn't move at all. It's a frame that moves that is under the ground glass.

Also, quick question about the Rollei: when you say that the Rollei has parallax correction, do you mean inside the camera, or that the Rolleinars are the parallax correction? I shoot a Mamiya C330s and rather love how they handled the parallax/exposure indicator.
@edpavez
@edpavez 4 жыл бұрын
The C330 has a needle that shows the parallax correction. The Rollei just changes the position of the screen to account for that parallax. The rolleinars are designed to modify the field of view, so they account for the parallax as well. It's a really clever system!

@@bencushwa8902 - @@bencushwa8902 - The company that makes Rollei's started out making 3D stero cameras in the 1920s. The figured out a way to put the ground glass on a hinge that would correct the parallax problems. They got a world-wide patent on the process and would not license it to anyone. That is why the Mamiya has the floating needle at the top, that does not allow the photogaher to preview the whole scene at close distances. Also, the top Rolinar has a little dot on it that needs to be mounted so it points to the top. The glass on the Rollinar is slanted to the bottom, which is how it helps correct the parallax
