loz, your videos are the only good ones to learn more about this marvellous pigeons. I watch them over and over again. Since I saw your videos I became member of the Dutch roller club although I am living in Spain (original I am from here) After looking very hard became nice birds. Let us have a look what brings next year. My intention is to fly with "a flight case" (in Spain the pigeons are not that popular with the neighbours ;).) You know that your videos are a lot of help for a lot of people, what should be a nice item is to talk and explain about the apple form body and the shape of the wings and explain about the strength and so on. Think this would be a very educative, even more coming from you. There is a video on KZbin about this item but it is from the USA and there they like other things than in the UK. hopefully you can make something about this Item. Looking forward your next video. Regards Jan.

Cheers mate.i think I'm going to do it like that to. I'm go to build a double kit box an I have a shed for the breeders an just see how it goes.....an merry Christmas to u pal where abouts u from I'm in the midlands
@LozHarrop11 жыл бұрын
Jason, Merry Christmas, I might put my breeding boxes in the shed this year as well, it will give me more room to separate out the new borns and the older birds from this years breeding. Want to try and breed 24 birds this year from 3 pairs, I can then house these all together for the rest of the year and hopefully get a full kit of birds all the same age. Im in the northwest on the coast in Southport. Cheers.

Great vid how did u make that stand so that it is retractable
@LozHarrop10 жыл бұрын
Angel Roche Thanks. Do you mean the drop board, if so its just fixed on hinges. On this vid I had used some temporary supports just a piece of timber with a hole drilled in the end and a smaller screw into the board. Have since put an arm underneath fixed with a hinge to support the board. Cheers.

Why the perch on the bottom spin? thank you.
@LozHarrop8 жыл бұрын
+tonysellhome It is a feeding trough, the spinning top stops the birds sitting on it.

Where to buy the loft? Does it need a heating system in winter? Thank you
@LozHarrop8 жыл бұрын
I made my boxes, some guys buy a small garden shed and convert it. It does not get cold enough here so no need to heat the boxes. Cheers.

hi great rollers do you sell birds at the end of the year
@LozHarrop9 жыл бұрын
Bruce Mair Hi Bruce and thanks, I have really only sold a few since i started as I wanted to build up two kits of 20 which I now have, for that reason im not breeding any this year but I will be reducing the kit sizes to around 15 birds this year so will be wanting to sell some of these birds on.

Have you considered getting some fancy birds like fantails?
@LozHarrop6 жыл бұрын
Yes I thought about getting a male fantail last year, never got round to it, im currently 50/50 undecided if i will carry on keeping the birds with all the problems Ive had with the hawks, they have taken most of my best birds now and it seems pointless breeding more for them to kill. The few good ones i have left are prisoners for their own safety.

Can anyone help with the size of the perches and how far apart i can put them?

Hi Glen mine are roughly 10 -12 inches apart and about 4 inches long.

hello mate. who's the bloke you got your birds off? just i know a good few lads as i used to keep them for 16 years. and am only 22 haha even though am from middlesbrough you hear about roller lads from all over england! .. 45 minutes is a good time for them to fly! if you stick to a system with them you can not go wrong. reason they flew 2 hours on some days is the amount of corn your giving them. its all about feeding with rollers.. other then that grate video and birds are in tip top condition.
@LozHarrop11 жыл бұрын
+boro7059. Thanks.. Ahhh well the guy I got them off asked me not to make it public for various reasons which I respect. It took alot of persuasion from a good friend of mine who knows him to get me these birds. They where all bred from his top birds so I count myself fortunate to have started with some good stock.The young I have bred have been on the same wheat diet and amount since they left the nest, 1 tablespoon a day each so the flying time must be mainly due to their mood and the weather. A sunny day with a nice breeze and they will fly for up to two hours, wind and cloud brings the time down alot but they never come in till they been up for at least 40 mins. They will probably fly for less once they start to roll deeper and longer, thats what I'm hoping!

hi mate can u please help me im from cardiff uk an i wanna get some roller youngens about 10 15? also is it ok to feed them weat all year round can u let me no Thank you p.s lovely birds👌
@LozHarrop7 жыл бұрын
Hi not sure where you will get some birds mate ask at pigeon clubs or look online for roller guys near you, you can feed wheat all year round but they do need other grains ideally now and then to stay healthy and when breeding.

Hi m8. I dont no all the ins an outs of houseing rollers.do i have to keep the hens and cocks separat or can i house then all together an fly them like that m8 : )
@LozHarrop11 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, Some guys keep the sexes separate when the birds arnt breeding or in breeding season, I just kept all of mine together even the breeding pairs are housed together. Sometimes the odd hen lays an egg on the floor when i take them out of the breeding boxes but they soon stopped the egg laying anyway when I took the nest bowls away. They fly together as cocks and hens no problem will be putting the pairs together in another month or so and will keep all the other young mixed sex birds together the rest of the year.

@jacksabout32318 жыл бұрын
but only like 12 of the 22 pack How can I make them all pack?? if that's possible?
@LozHarrop8 жыл бұрын
+Jack Prouten Hi Jack yes its possible. to get rollers to kit together you need to get them into a routine if possible, fly the same time each day and feed after flying only. watch them fly and the birds that drop out of the group catch them and separate them into another box and keep them in.. keep doing this until you end up with a group that flys together all the time maybe it will just be your group of 12 at this point. fly the group for a week or so until you know they will all stick together then take one of the non kitters out of the box and release it with the kitters when you fly them. let it go into the box with them after flying. You may have to fly for a couple of days to get it into the habit of staying with the others. when and if it does carry this on with the other birds one by one until you have them all kitting. you may have some that will never kit together and these birds will be the ones that ruin the kit when flying by pulling other birds out. you have to remove these every time you fly or house them in separate box for good. If you want a good kit of birds that is the best way to do it. Cocks will usually bring hens down from the kit if you are flying the sexes together. also some birds are just lazy and cant be trained. hope that helps.

+Jack Prouten Hi Jack, Nice to hear, do you prefer the racers or the rollers more> I answered your other comment.

Yeah that dose thanks alot!

Also they get fed once day at the same time every day... Also how many times a day do you feed yours? As when I first got mine I fed them twice aday and they would just sit about and take long to come in so I now feed them once day at noon and they come in straight away when I shake the food is this the right way to do it?
