another year, another out of nowhere switch innovation. very cool! they sound surprisingly good.

Who knew they’d use balls on the switch shaft. Another great post by Mr. Arpeykeys

wow that’s a super interesting design, I’d be especially curious to see if they start manufacturing with different material combinations. I’m personally dreaming of a full nylon housing or full POM switch with 4 mm travel, but it seems everything new comes with a short travel these days.
@arpeykeys11 ай бұрын
yea its definitely something I'm keeping an eye out for if they start using different materials
@nicholash802110 ай бұрын
Why do you like longer travel? I can type faster with a 3mm travel and when I press keys in the QWERTY row, I don't accidentally press keys in the ASDF row. This will only make sense if you're a touch-typist, don't "poke" at your keyboard, and prefer to rest your wrists on the desk.
@ImOnMy11610 ай бұрын
I just find a longer travel is more comfortable, presumably because I’m not bottoming out as hard, and there’s more room between the actuation and bottom out to pull back up. I am a touch typist and hover my wrists generally, can’t say I’ve really run into the issue of hitting multiple rows, though I suppose that’s influenced by keycap profile (I only use cherry profile caps)
@nicholash802110 ай бұрын
@@ImOnMy116 True about the key cap profile, which is why I like ASA but cherry also has good stair-stepping between the upper rows. I just don't like the sharp corners of Cherry.

Won't the metal ball bearings wear the plastic down and eventually make the stem super wobbly?
@arpeykeys11 ай бұрын
Hmm hard to say. I'm no materials expert but I guess it makes some sense? But at the same time the metal balls might not wear it down practically within the lifespan of whatever board you put them in. A break in machine would put it to the test but I don't have one :(
@immaSpy111 ай бұрын
@@arpeykeys I hope someone will put it to the test at some point :) At any rate, thanks for the vid!

I have a breakin machine. Send me a switch and I’ll throw 1.5mil actuations on it. IF, the ball bearing actually does what it’s supposed to, which is ROLL, then I’d think the wear would be minimal.

is it smoother than LY stem switches ?
@arpeykeys11 ай бұрын
I think its too hard to say which plastics are smoother than others, at least aside from switches that are obviously scratchy like nk creams or mx blacks. Plastics can be blended so nylon from one switch could be different from another nylon switch. Definitely smoother than BSUN switches that I have which are the flower shadows, roselles, strawberry wines, and the bcp.
@42degrees8610 ай бұрын
Are HMX really smoother than these, just got onto HMX switches and impressed but thought maybe these are end game?
@arpeykeys10 ай бұрын
I think HMX has a more buttery smooth feel to it where it feels like any point where the stem touches the housing its definitely lubed adequately, but somehow not excessively. The roller linears are very smooth with minimal lube and minimal scratch noise, but doesn’t feel as buttery. If that makes sense lol
@42degrees8610 ай бұрын
Thanks that's really helpful! I have the hyacinth v2u and think they're great. I was actually going to spring swap them to a heavier spring but tried and I actually preferred stock as they have this amazing frictionless feel.
