does the brass really bring so much better sound compared to the stainless steel weight or battery cover?
@arpeykeysАй бұрын
I think the weight just helps make the sound slightly fuller and helps with resonance. I don’t think the stainless weight will sound different from the brass weights. I’ve heard the cover makes more of a difference sound wise with the brass sounding deeper than the stainless steel cover. Someone with a unit from the china gb was talking about it in the clickclack discord. But I believe blacksimon had both stainless steel and brass covers to compare. You can find his vods on youtube

Solder is mostly just if there’s a specific layout you want thats not offered on the hotswap pcb. There isn’t really a difference in feel or sound

Thanks for the shoutout to our video! The Neo Ergo looks great for that price... our biggest gripe is that we bought it over a month to try it our ourselves and it hasn't shipped yet 😅 Regarding ergonomics, we recommend a fully split keyboard like the Dygma Raise or Defy, but this one is a step in the right direction 😊

Great review! I've been wanting a tented Alice for some time, but so many are incredibly expensive and I didn't want to risk it if I didn't like the layout. I recently got the Neo Ergo and was pleasantly surprised how quickly I adjusted to it, though now wonder how a larger angled tent would be. I loved how easy it was to build since there were no screws, wires, or ribbon cables thanks to the magnetic daughterboard and ball-catch chassis.

appreciate the review and the discussion on ergonomics! A plateless tented alice is a really sick combo! I tried an arisu layout for a bit, it was cool, didn’t feel too revolutionary for me, but maybe some day I’ll have to try a split board. @@arpeykeys In your opinion, what lubricant, film, and spring should I use to have the best experience with Cherry's switches?
@arpeykeys2 ай бұрын
@@truongvuonghuy6760 205g0 is pretty standard. I don't think there's any point in using anything thinner since the switch is already so scratchy even with 205g0. Deskey films, or anything made of poron foam will make them sound a little fuller, but if you prefer clack then use tx films or films made with polycarbonate. and springs are purely preference. I like long springs or double stage springs in mine.

This is a great keyboard, but $184 keyboard is not budget anymore. Not in 2024
@OJAbrey2 ай бұрын
I agree. I think the range of prices that constitute "budget" at this point has shifted pretty significantly downwards. From what I can see here in the video though, I think the board's price point is justified. The complexity and quality of machining seems to be higher than what I've seen on, for example, the Rainy75 or nd75. (Edit:) Or on other budget TKLs like the Feker Galaxy...
@arpeykeys2 ай бұрын
Its a fair point. The term is subjective. And kinda relative to how much you would be willing to spend I guess. I just think before I got into the hobby, a $200 board was outrageous. And then after looking at a bunch of different customs, $200 doesn’t seem bad. Especially for a tkl, the size alone makes things more expensive. Compared to the tiger80 which came out like 2 years ago, this board is cheaper and offers way more, so with the tiger80 being considered budget back then, it just makes sense for an aluminum tkl with more features at a lower price to still be considered budget. But I get $200 is a lot for a lot of people.
@ImOnMy1162 ай бұрын
appreciate the thorough and thoughtful review! Will admit TKL is not my preferred layout, but the MX Blacks on alu sound so lively in this board! Would definitely love to hear this with a Nylon or PP nonflexcut plate. Nylon is absolutely nuts in my opinion / limited personal experience

man I gotta say leaf ticking on a linear switch just drives me up the wall. It seems somewhat common on light tactiles I’ve used (bolsa corsas, mx browns, and sp star meteor oranges), and I’ve done a sort of leaf shroud mod with leftover material from deskeys films to eliminate it. I just don’t expect to have that on a linear switch. Interesting that opening them up would create that sort of problem. Cool to see an alternative to both the OG frankenswitch and Bsun BCPs though!
