Thank you for making this video. Sad to say, as a person who learned to forward skate as a kid, I never learned how to backward skate except a little bit on my own at the rink. I appreciate these exercises you do in this video. I will try them when I go back to the rink. The other trouble I believe I have maybe also because I have speed skates-which I love, but they do not have a heel on them. Wondering if this is adding to my loss of control when I attempt to backward skate. Thanks again!

@@TaniCoy You bet it's helping. I've been battling my head off and watched numerous videos and none of them provided me with any progress. I was about to give up when I came across your work, tried it, and immediately felt encouraged. What would I like a tutorial on ... let me see, stopping (forward and backward) and safe falling. I have knee, wrist, and elbow pads, but my biggest fear is to fall on my butt or one of my hips and breaking one. A sprained wrist or bloody knee heals quickly, but hurting a hip can have serious repercussions. Any tips on that? BTW I found your other videos, you're really great.

@@connymanero4649 Thank you again! Here is a video on a few stops that help me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmSbiaSIf8h3eZo It may not cover everything for you but hopefully it’s a start. There are hip and butt padded shorts that a lot of people use like these rstyle.me/cz-n/fgff3sdcjax that you could check out. I think they are well worth it. And the falling one is tough. It is so important to learn this but I don’t want to give out the wrong information. I learned how to fall so young that I don’t really remember it, but fortunately my body does. Dirty Deborah on KZbin might have some good videos on this and is certainly more qualified. 💓

Thank you! These are from Rollerstuff on Etsy. And yes I took my Toe Stops out and put in Jam Plugs. It helps to have them this way when trying to do more rhythm and jam style skating. 💜🦋

Do you need to loosen the anything before doing any of these skills I just got skates today
@TaniCoy

Congratulations! That’s so exciting. I would check your wheels. Make sure they spin. And then if you have never been on skates start out very slow and work on the ability to just stand upright. Keep knees bent and wear protective gear and helmet. 💓🦋

I just got skates for the first time and when I try turning, leaning or the sticky skate I can’t do it, my skates only want to go straight. I can only turn if I lift them off the ground otherwise they feel kinda sticky and like grinds on the floor. It’s so frustrating.

hey! have you tried loosening your trucks just a tad bit? that should solve your issue! usually when you put on your skates fresh out of the box, they are like “factory” tight lol. loosening the trucks just a teeny bit so the truck/wheel bearing wiggles just the smallest amount should do the trick. hope this helps! :)
@TaniCoy
@TaniCoy 3 жыл бұрын
Loosening trucks and your wheels can help a ton. New skates usually need a little adjusting at first. It can also depend on what type of skates you have. 💜

It does depend on the size of your toe stopper for some of the moves. I found mine got in the way but when you are beginning a toe stopper is helpful. 💜

Which wheels do you use for slippery tiles? I have Moxi Skates Rainbow Riders stock wheels. I notice that it's very slippery on tiles and even on concrete road. I'm currently practicing on rubberized jogging track and it's pretty much working

Radar came out with some new outdoor dance wheels that have good grip called “Crush” (small wheels!), they would be good as long as you are on smooth surfaces. I also like Radar Energy 57’s but they don’t have as much grip.

There are some things you can practice on carpet. Getting used to being in skates and higher up is helpful. Depending on how thick your carpet is though your wheels will have trouble rolling. 💜

Do you keep your trucks loose or tight? Can you say if this make a difference ?
@TaniCoy
@TaniCoy 3 жыл бұрын
I have personally loosened my trucks to what’s comfortable for me and it can definitely make a difference! It takes a little bit of trial and error to find that sweet spot but you can just loosen them a little bit at a time until it feels good and always retighten if you don’t feel secure or too wobbly. 💜

How do your skates not make any noise when turning? I think I’m doing something wrong, I practice on my driveway with gummy outdoor wheels so that must be why. Anything I can do to prevent the annoying sound?
@TaniCoy
@TaniCoy 3 жыл бұрын
Wheels absolutely make a difference! But mine do still make noise. Overtime you get better at moving them with less drag but for me it isn’t completely avoidable. At least not yet anyway. Lol! 💜

Hope this isn't a silly question, but could this be effective/helpful for inline skates too? There's a heat wave this week where I am, and I'm not too keen on heading outside right now to skate ha
@TaniCoy
@TaniCoy 3 жыл бұрын
Not a silly question at all. You can definitely do some movements on inlines. Probably not all but you could always make your own adjustments. Any type of strength training is helpful too and I have a few of those videos as well. We are having heatwaves and hazardous air quality due to smoke where I’m at so I can totally relate to being stuck inside. 💜

I have a question! Does truck tightness affect your ability to do bubbles? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Total and complete noob here. But subbed! I love your explanation of things!
@TaniCoy
@TaniCoy 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for subbing! Not a dumb question at all. Actually a really good one. Yes, when they are loosened it can help with turning. But the more tight they are the more stable. So you can start gradually loosening until you find that sweet spot that works for you. And over time adjust to fit your advancements. Also bubbles has a lot to do with muscle activation and mind muscle connection. They can be really tricky at first and that is totally normal. 💜🦋

Okay I get what these drills do but for these brand new skaters, how do these drills help with specific moves? I don’t know how to do back and forth turning. Like what am I doing? How does the back and forth help at all??
@TaniCoy
@TaniCoy 2 жыл бұрын
Any type of movement that gets you more comfortable on wheels without a lot of risk is good to practice. It also teaches control and getting used to moving your legs/feet/skates in opposite or different directions. A good foundation is always easier to build off of. If we are not able to do basic moves first then trying more advanced ones can not only be harder but dangerous. And the turning has to do with weight distribution and sliding. Hope this helps at least a little. 💜
