Last year I started skating at 43, with inline skates. I realized I'm quite good at it and enjoying it a lot. I can skate anywhere and I'm learning slides. But when I see roller skates I wonder how does it compare to inkines. The boots seem so more comfortable and the flow seems nicer, I don't know why. How does it feel to try roller skates after learning with inlines?
@JakeLDS2 ай бұрын
Everyone I know that has tried street skating in roller skates after inlines finds it very hard. It is harder work, of course once you’re at a good level and used to it then it’s fairly easy and very enjoyable. But many struggle because there’s so much less resistance on inlines so you feel more of the ground on roller skates and it’s harder to push. But quads are definitely more comfortable in my opinion.

Amazing video! I'm trying to get into this style of skating. What skates are you using? Heard that converted Bauer's are the way to go
@JakeLDS7 ай бұрын
For street skating, definitely converted ice hockey boots. Lots of people have Bauers but there are other boots. These are Roces, which are very popular. These days I skate in Reebok 5k boots. I love them! CCM is a good brand as well. CCM made the Reebok boots. Thing to know about Bauers is that they are of course not all the same, some models are great and some are horrible. Same with most brands really. They all make entry level boots which tend to be too basic and so quite uncomfortable. And they also make high end boots, some of the top spec boots though are top spec for ice hockey but you wouldn’t want them for roller skating because they’re too stiff. Usually you want a model in between I’d say. That’s why I like my Reebok 5k, they’re a good quality heat mouldable boot but they’re not too stiff. Comfiest street skates I’ve ever owned.

@MonicaDaSilva-ih2bp2 жыл бұрын
@@JakeLDS that sounds awesome, do you recommend any good places to get outdoor skates?
@JakeLDS2 жыл бұрын
@@MonicaDaSilva-ih2bp where are you based? Any skates can be used outdoors with the right wheels, some are better suited to it than others though. Expensive suede skates will probably get ruined quickly. In the UK/London lots of people use converted Ice Hockey boots because they can be quite cheap to get hold of and they're also very robust and rugged for street skating. You're not going to tear holes in them easily. There's a few places that sell converted Ice Hockey boots but mostly they use very cheap Ice Hockey boots that are not very comfortable. This is why I converted my own and why lots of other skaters build their own as well. It's possible to find very high quality Ice Hockey boots on ebay and then either convert them yourself or pay someone who knows how to convert them. If you're in the UK check out olisskateshop, quad-skates.co.uk or skate attack.
@MonicaDaSilva-ih2bp2 жыл бұрын
@@JakeLDS I'm from London, I was just looking at Skate attack THANK YOUUU, one more thing do you think its worth getting the Bauer Roller Skates or should I build my own?
@JakeLDS2 жыл бұрын
@@MonicaDaSilva-ih2bp you'd do no harm getting some Bauers from skate attack to begin with but lots of people, once they've been skating for a while realise they need something more comfortable. If you plan to spend three, four, five or even more hours in your skates comfort and fit is incredibly important. Lots of experienced skaters still use a Bauers but they use the very comfortable high end Bauers that they have found on ebay and converted themselves or paid a shop like skate attack to convert. Bauers has very high end ice skates and very low end I've skates and every level in between. The difference in materials they use can make a big difference to fit and comfort. Don't let all of this put you off just getting some skates and getting roller though. If you want some just do it, get some and get out skating. A friend of mine bought some Bauers from skate attack recently, he used them a bit and realised they didn't for well so sold them and got pretty much what he paid for them when he sold them because they're in demand. So just get some, get rolling and then if you want to upgrade do it when you know more what you need.

Airwaves 65mm wheels and Bones Reds Bearings. Reds get rusty pretty easy though because they're only sealed on one side so you have to stay away from moisture and maintain them, they always feel very fast though. This wheel and bearing combo is pretty standard amongst street skaters these days because they work, they're not too expenive and they're fast on the street. I'm going to start doing lots more videos in teh new year including covering my skate set ups and building skates so make sure to subscribe.

I use Roces RSK 2 boots. They're an ice skate that I had converted. Lots of street skaters used converted ice hockey boots. The Roces RSK2 boots are very cheap but very comfortable. Fila Viper ice skates make a good roller skate conversion as well. They used to be known as Bauer Flows but they got taken over by Fila, same skate just with different branding on. I converted mine myself but there are skate shops that can do it for you. If you just get a playmaker plate on the bottom it will be fairly cheap to make. You can buy pre buily bauer ice skate conversions from lost roller skate shops but the boots they use are not very comfortable.

@JakeLDS Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately these are pretty much the only Bauers you can get made in a shop, they are the entry level boot. I've never skated them myself but I hear they are not very comfortable. For convenience sake I would say get some so you can just get skating, don't let what model you're going to get put you off if you think it will. That said, if you have the patience, the time and the energy you can try to find a better model, buy them as ice skates somewhere like ebay, then have a shop convert them. I convert all mine myself because I'm a perfectionist but a lot of shops can do this, or there are individuals on insta who do it as a paid service.

For skates that are built and ready to roll I'd check out some of the newer models from Chaya, they're a very well respected quad brand from spain. What do you think would be the best brand to buy street skates?
@JakeLDS Жыл бұрын
Most street skaters in London use converted ice hockey skates. The most popular brand is Bauer or the old Nike/Bauer collabs, but other good brands are CCM, Reebok (also made by CCM), and Roces. People buy them 2nd hand somewhere like ebay and then convert them or pay a skate shop or someone they know who can convert them to do it well. You can buy some ready made from skate shops but they're all made using the cheapest Bauers which are not known to be comfortable. All brands have cheap models, mod range models and high end models. So just looking for the brand doesn't guarantee good skates, you need to know which models to go for. It's all a bit confusing if you're new to it. I personally now days use Reebok 5k ice skates converted and I think they're amazing. I just also bought some Reebok 9k Ice skates ready for me to convert in the future. I love the reebok ice skates and they're usually a bit cheaper to buy than the nike/bauer skates even though they're just as good, if not better, just because they're less popular. If all of that sounds like a headache though Chaya, which is a very well respected skate brand from Spain, have just released a few new models that look ideal fro street skating. If I was just getting into now I'd 100% but some of those. In fact I may still buy some because they look like quality street skates. They are the Chaya Chamelion and the Chaya Ragnaroll. Look them up.
@lauracruzsinger6999 Жыл бұрын
@@JakeLDS Amazing, appreciate the detailed reply back! I do have 3 professional roller skates funny enough I got a pair in spain! and figure ice skates. The issue would be they are not made for street skating. Looking at some videos I clocked that most of them are converted. So I’m thinking to just use the ones I already have and just completely convert them. I will definitely look onto the idea of maybe getting cheaper new ones and see how it goes. Again I appreciate the detailed info!🙏blessings.

@JakeLDS Жыл бұрын
Any Bauer skates from the 80s will have degraded by now. The plastic will be brittle. People that buy them often find they shatter or snap of they try to skate in them. There's another brand that uses the exact same design as the 80s Bauers. I think they are called Ventro Pro Turbos.
@justjesus6857 Жыл бұрын
@@JakeLDS thank you i take it bauer no longer exist
@JakeLDS Жыл бұрын
@@justjesus6857 Bauer still exists, lots of people skate in Bauer ice skates that have been converted. They're made from different materials isntead of hard plastic. Shops only sell the entry level models that are not the best for comfort. Most people source their own in places like ebay and then convert them or pay a shop to convert them. I currently LOVE my converted Reebok 5K ice skates. They're the most comforable skates I've ever tried. The Reebok 5k is a heat mouldable boot, so you can cook them in the oven and make them fit great. If you can find some of them on ebay you'll have a top skate. I also reccomend Chaya or Bont for pre built skates.
