My car was converted to manual by a previous owner. If you're a mechanic, I don't think it would be too big a problem, other than sourcing the parts. They can take some getting used to, but after seeing the Hans short shift kit on OCD HAUS and installing one, I think results in more positive shifting. Yes, I hear people say it's not great but it's nothing you couldn't live with. I don't do a lot of city driving but I don't find it a problem, nor do I find the clutch too heavy or stiff. It's quite progressive, even people who drive it for the first time remark on this. The manual gearbox completely changes the character of the car, in my opinion, all the better to experience the mechanical connection from the engine to the wheels.

Hi what is your opinion on the manual gearbox? I want to convert my 84 euro to manual. I have heard its not the best gearbox. The gear change is difficult and the clutch is stiff.

I think it’s all relative. My 928 gearbox feels spongy when compared to my 997.2, and I sometimes miss-shift. However, I think that has more to do with my unfamiliarity switching back and forth between the two cars. I think it’s a hundred times better than driving an automatic. However, I’ve never driven a 928 in automatic, so I mean it general terms. Isn’t that a major undertaking and somewhat costly to install a manual transmission? That one KZbinr “Jay Read” was thinking about doing that on his 928, you might want to check out his channel for his and his viewers thoughts on the matter. If you’re in the SF Bay Area, you’re welcome to try mine out for yourself. Just email me.

I am all the way in South Africa. I have yet to find a manual 928 owner here to experience the manual transmission. Im a mechanic so am confident in doing the conversion.

Too bad, well then, I say do it, manuals are a dying breed.
