Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises

8 жыл бұрын

This video instructs families with a baby with Microcephaly how to work with their baby. My name is Amy Sturkey, PT. I am a pediatric physical therapist in the US. I'd like to give some ideas to families who want to help their baby with Microcephaly due to the Zika virus. This video teaches a simple technique in how to work on head control and trunk strength while rolling from side to side. I taped this video specifically for families with a child with Microcephaly; however, this technique could be used with any child with a developmental delay who holds his/her shoulders elevated. I hope you find this idea useful and simple to follow through.
My website is www.pediatricPTexercises.com. My Facebook page is Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises. My informational books, "A is for Autism," "C is for Cerebral Palsy," "D is for Down Syndrome," "Pediatric Physical Therapy Strengthening Exercises for the Hips" and "Pediatric Physical Therapy Strengthening Exercises for the Knees" are available on Amazon. "A is for ADHD" should be available shortly. Do not hesitate to contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com with questions, concerns or favorable reviews! Please note I am unable to provide treatment recommendations for a child I have not personally evaluated.
I am so honored to have people from all over the world watch my videos. I have reviewed and corrected the closed captions for this video so that you might understand what I am saying even if you don't speak English. I hope the directions below are helpful to you.
To turn on Captions, click CC in the bottom right corner of the video.
To choose a different caption language:
At the bottom right, click Settings. It looks like a wheel.
Click Subtitles/CC.
Select a language.
If the language isn't listed when you click Subtitles/CC:
Click Auto-translate.
Select a language.
Of course, if the captions are in the way of viewing the details in the video, you can always turn them off in the bottom right-hand corner of your video screen.

I have no idea if you can do this with your baby. You may need to avoid hip Flexion, adduction, and internal rotation according to the severity. Check with a local therapist

Hello mam.... My daughter (3 month old) has microcephaly. Do every child with microcephaly has cerebral palsy? I need to know the order of teaching her to achieve milestones. Can you please tell the order? And how many repetitions per side for rolling over ln this video?
@pediatricPTexercises
@pediatricPTexercises 2 жыл бұрын
I do not think that microcephaly and cerebral palsy necessarily go hand-in-hand. I have certainly known Many clients with microcephaly who do not have cerebral palsy. In general, I think teaching developmental milestones in the order that they typically develop is the correct order. The number of repetitions I recommend depends on the child.

@@anthonybacha2521 She may have stated it incorrectly, but she may be advising to, some, parents that would typically use too much pressure by grabbing the child by nothing other than the front of the foot. I know with my child, I can definitely see what she may be hinting to. Amy Sturkey is a profession, and even though that doesn't mean she is absolved from making errors ... but I believe in what she just taught. Maybe Amy should have stated that we need to be extra careful as to not hurt the child, because some people would need to be told that.
