Rolling Quartz is my favorite K-Rock band! They were the ones who really brought K-Rock to the international stage. Jayoung is a phenomenal front woman ... and I can't say enough good things about Arem, Iree, Hyunjung, and Yeongeon. They are really close as bandmates and it comes through in their music.

Let's call it "rock with a pop sensibility", cause that's what it is. Doesn't mean it's bad or not creative; on the contrary, I quite like them. They could put out more songs and play fewer covers, but a) what they have in original songs is very well crafted, and b) their covers are actually very good. Good live band too (you could say they are a live band first and foremost), I saw them live in Berlin in a small club a year ago; they have extensive experience in playing the small rock clubs in Seoul. You should know that in Korea the rock scene is small and underground, the country mostly being in the grip of K-pop, and if you want to break out of that, in Korea it apparently doesn't hurt if you make some concessions to pop esthetics. It seems to have worked, they have 653,000 KZbin followers. Their fans from what I've seen are either older rock listeners or more seasoned K-pop listeners, and they seem to have a rather large lesbian fan contingent, maybe unsurprising that.

Yay, you found my girls :) Proud Diadem for life here (RQ fanbase). I've seen them live and can't wait for the next opportunity. Jayoung is a legit rockstar frontwoman. Manager Han said recently in an interview that the band can go much harder, but they intentionally embrace pop elements in the hope of attracting more fans in K-pop saturated Korea.

Hi, thanks for the reaction. I’ve been following them since they started posting covers during the pandemic and it is great to see them grow and being recognised, especially in the birthplace of K-pop, South Korea, where currently rock is almost dead. You are right about the pop-rock feel of their music, I’d say their sound is sort of 80s, 90s ‘rock n’ roll’.They are not Idol, they are Indie, they don’t have big record companies financing them, they have to make a living by playing their music. They cannot and do not go ‘full on’ hard rock on their albums, concerts or official channels as that would be suicidal in Korea. They can shred, seen them playing Metallica, The White Stripes, Anna Tsuschiya, X-Japan covers on non-RQ KZbin channels, but do it only for fun. They are a very talented bunch, fire on stage, I had the recent opportunity to see them live in Australia, it was a great experience. Thanks for reading my spill.

I always joke about how much greater they could be if they weren't so camera-shy 😉 Another good song IMO, is "Reminiscence". It's a remake of an almost 50-year-old rock ballad by Korean band Sanullim. One of the OG's who wrote the song was in the studio with them (he is getting different people to remake his songs for a 50-year band celebration). In an interview (a separate clip from the MV), he highly praised the RQ ladies, saying his song was a 4/5, and their remake was 5/5. Sorry for the long comment. RQ are a great , hard working band who have gained quite a following despite Rock not being a genre that is particularly appreciated in Korea . Theirs is really a story of success against the odds - they are I think more popular in Europe than Korea which is a great pity ( but the upside is that they tour in Europe regularly ) as well as Australia and the US . Great to see you are branching out! Suprised again? 😀 RQ is great; the Korean Warning + 2 with a tight and really good sound. And the Korean song actually sounds great too. You are on point with the melodic lines; they are contructed slightly "poppy" for easy recognition and for banging out in the front of a mirror with a hairbrush, I think. What I gather from the lyrics, this is kind of a "I do as I please" song. It's a matter of taste. In songwriting The Warning undoubtedly has the edge by sheer volume, but both have some great tunes, of a different style though. In instrumental prowess RQ is not worse than The Warning to be honest, I sometimes feel that TW are bit overrated on that count, though Dany is a great singer and Ale is a very good bassist. Band-Maid is another question, they are more seasoned and accomplished than either of the other bands and IMO better musicians, at least from what I've seen of all three bands. NB I'm not a Band-Maid fan, their songwriting doesn't click with me whereas both TW and RQ does, but they are very, very good.
