I'm pleased that both Paul McCartney and John Lennon made it on this list 👍xx.

Hi Larry I got the Phil McCracken joke. Gerry Reed was also an actor and played in some movies with Burt Reynalds.

Nice to see some of my Top 10 appear in John Mcgeoch , Jerry Cantrell , Johnny Thunders , Steve Hackett & Steve Howe. The fact that neither the late Tom Verlaine or Geordie are here doesn't bode well for them. Nice that Nels Cline from Wilco placed high ! 🎸

Verlaine was onit.

Martin Barre ? Bruce Cockburn ? Bill Nelson from Be Bop Deluxe ? Andrew Latimer from Camel ? Davey Johnstone from Elton John's band ? Mike Oldfield ? Robin Trower ? Colin James. ? Steve Winwood ? Lowell George ? Gee , I guess they don't know how to play guitar well enough for Rolling Stone's liking .

Thanks Larry for your kind comment on Rory Gallagher(How can they put him at 175? It's an insult). He's my number one, nobody comes close. I've seen many great guitarists live in concert through the years but he was on a different level to everybody else. The man had a passion for performing live and never cared for fame and fortune.

This list can't be taken seriously. Buckingham and Billy Gibbons in the top 30 at least. Molly Tuttle is also amazing; one of the few guitarists I can think of who doesn't appear inadequate when sharing the stage with Tommy Emmanuel. All topped by people I also have never heard of. But thanks for making the effort.

Although he's not my favorite guitar player of all time, I still want to see Adam Jones from TOOL in the top 100!

He is damn good for sure!

Let's hope Robert Johnson is in the top 100.

These lists are all to be taken with a grain of salt. To see Rory Gallagher and Johnny Winter rated this low says all you need to say about a Rolling Stone list.

I agree with you, two of the best guitarists ever. How can Steve Howe, and Grant Green be right down this list 🤔

Good video. Many there I’m not familiar with. I love K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton. Keen to see who’s in the top 100.

As you say the guitarists are so different, from different genres, it’s impossible to rank them sensibly. My personal ‘you must be joking’ was Rory Gallagher - top fifty easily, top ten if we’re just talking rock guitarists. Having said that it’s still fun, even though it becomes more and more apparent that Rolling Stone doesn’t have a clue what it’s doing.

I echo all the mentions from johnw and would add lenny breau, joe pass, tal farlow, and george Benson from the jazz side; randy Bachman, peter frampton, Matt pike from rock; Glen Campbell and Roy Clark from country and Leo kottke and John renbourn from folk.

I have sort of a love hate relationship with this list. It's great that they included people like Molly Tuttle, Kingfish or Yvette Young. They are great abd deserve a spot on such a list. But how can you not include Ingwie Malmsteen, don't like the guy, don't like his music, but he's one of the best guitar players alive today. And there are a couple of other examples that could be top 100 material, that do not even appear.

I think John Lennon should be higher on the list of guitar players simply because there is more evidence of his guitar playing than Paul. When Paul grabs the guitar, he cooks. And the same can be said about John especially since there are many songs that he is driving with his rhythm guitar playing and a handful of songs where he is cooking on lead. So, yeah, I have no problem with the placement

They are all good in their own right. I don't believe the rating is to determine who is better but it's a list of all the best. 🎸😎

John Lennon was a hell of a rhythm guitarist but it goes to show RL are kind clueless putting him above McCartney

What happens to the lists when they're all dead?
@dr.s.8 ай бұрын
What should happen? A couple of the people on the list are already dead and they are still there. Also it might take a while until they are all dead, Kingfish is one of the youngest (maybe even the youngest) and he's 25, he hopefully has a couple more decades, so most of us don't have to worry anyways. And there are still amazing new players appearing on the scene, some of them hardly grew out of their diapers.

I'm glad I do not read or buy R$ anymore. Ok CanStud roll over on this ****list. You got the passionas Ned Schneably said. Pete Townshend criminally underrated.

I never take these lists seriously but Hackett, Lukather, Dave Davies, Dickey Betts, Joe Walsh, Steve Howe and Buckingham are way too low.

Hi Larry , I feel that Robbie Kreiger of the Doors should be much higher . Andy Summers should much higher as well . Well and the endless debate of John or Paul , I still place Paul a bit higher than John . Steve Hackett should be higher too . Interesting 🤔 list 😊 it’s for fun 🤩 anyway

Nice to see Mick Ronson on the list. I agree though that 109 is too low. There is no way in hades that Slash is better than Ronson.

Andy Summers at 250 under a bunch of "Never heard ofs". Typical Rolling Stone list. Glad I stopped buying their mag in the mid 80's. How they complile these lists is a mystery to me.

My number one isn't even on the list - Allan Holdsworth.
