Well the honky-tonks in Texas are my natural second home Where you tip your hat to the ladies and the rose of San Antone I grew up on music that we called western swing It don't matter who's in Austin, Bob Wills is still the king Well I can still remember the way things were back then In spite of all the hard times, I'd do it all again To hear The Texas Playboys and Tommy Duncan sing Makes me proud to be in Texas, Bob Wills is still the king You can hear the Grand Ol' Opry from Nashville, Tennessee It's the home of country music, on that we all agree When you cross that ol' Red River, boy, well that don't mean a thing Cause when you're down in Texas, Bob Wills is still the king Well if you ain't never been there I guess you ain't been told You've got to live in Texas, you've got to have a lot of soul It's the home of Willie Nelson, it's the home of western swing Cause when you're down in Austin, Bob Wills is still the king And when you're down in Texas, Bob Wills is still the king

I was there at the Broken Spoke the night before this show, playing with Alvin Crow. Chuck Leavell came up and sat in with us for six songs; Pinetop Perkins was also there, but didn't play. At this show, Pinetop was backstage with the Stones, but didn't go out with them. I'm pretty sure this song was the result of a backstage discussion, and they did it on the fly. They couldn't have rehearsed it, they were just remembering it. I was also in this audience when they whipped it out. The sound levels were much worse than this, LOL. Completely from the hip.

I'm pretty impressed with Ronnie's steel guitar playing! Waylon did a version of Honky tonky women, I guess the Stones can do Bob Wills Is Still the King.

The Beatles music will far outlive the Rolling Stones music, long after they are all gone. It would be nice to think that "Jumping Jack Flash" would last forever too.

Lucky they are so professional. It takes a lot of skill to keep playing through and not missing a beat while screwing up the steel guitar solo like that and then messing up the lyrics. Nobody noticed, except them...you can see them laughing it off. They pleased that crowd and that's what they're supposed to do. Looks like they were having fun as well. After 50+ years of doing this professionally (and probably high most of the time), I highly doubt that anything they do could be called "wrong." Icons of music in any genre.

Probably Waylon does a better job on this song, after all it's the STONES first try at C& W. They've taken some criticism , BUT could WAYLON have played a great STONE's song? I think not. It's a nice tribute to Wills and Texas!👅STONES👏

No offense to Waylon, but It's think this is *better* than the original, and I say that as a former country music DJ in the 1970s and 1980s.

Waylon didn't play steel guitar...members of his band did
@SuperOlds889 жыл бұрын
I thought they might do a better job at playing this. They should have just done it their way instead of trying to play the part of a real C&W band. Jaggers voice is horrible and Wood needs to figure out what those pedals are for. I don't care if they don't usually do this type of music, this was a terrible performance and you can look at Wood and Richards and know they think it sucks too.

+Lightnin Hopkins You must not be familiar with the Stones country excursions - Far Away Eyes, Dead Flowers, Country Honk. They just get in the pocket and go for it (no one in the band looks dissatisfied with the performance).
@SuperOlds889 жыл бұрын
I made a comment about this one particular song, not their whole career.
@RollingOrmond9 жыл бұрын
Lightnin Hopkins Still, I don't think anyone in the band thought they did a bad job of it, nor did the audience.
@SuperOlds889 жыл бұрын
Good for you but its hard for me to believe that musicians with their talent believe they are doing a good job with this song. I can see it in their faces, they know its weak.
@RollingOrmond9 жыл бұрын
Lightnin Hopkins Keith and Ronnie exchange relaxed, gentle smiles, Ronnie's steel pedal is perfect, Charlie's timing fine...you're projecting your personal feelings on this performance.
