The Rolling Stones catalog of great songs is is vast, sometimes you forget a song that you like only because it was released about the same time that other bigger hits were released. For me, such was the case of "Hand of Fate." I liked it when it came out on the "Black & Blue" album. Fast forward 30+ years. My wife & I were at a bar at sunset overlooking the bay at Charlotte Amalie, USVI, and the DJ put on "Hand of Fate." We both looked at each other and commented the song was so good it felt like we were really hearing it for the first time. It was a feeling we share to this day every time we hear it. What a powerful song!🤘

Mick Taylor was lead then so it made sense. He had left before Black and Blue and Ron Wood came in. Not even close to Mick Taylor who was their best guitarist easily. Wayne's an AL boy, he and Emmylou Harris were born a few miles apart. The Stones wanted to keep the band all Brit, but of the guitarists "auditioning" on Black and Blue, Wayne laid down the best track. Those bends are not for mere mortals.
@rutledri8 жыл бұрын
+outlawyer45 The real reason Wayne was axed was not he was not a Brit but his writing ability. Keith and Wayne were writing together and it would have changed the power structure of the band. Mick would and could not have that so Wayne got axed in favor of Ronnie.

Black and Blue was the 1st Stones album i was introduced to,i was 12yrs old. My sisters older boyfriend(16yrs old) and i were playing horseshoes in his backyard when he popped 2 speakers into the back bedroom window and played this album.Hot Stuff was the 1st tune i heard off this album and i was hooked.I couldnt believe what i was hearing.It was like magic.Then Hand of Fate and i was blown away even more.Then Cherry Oh Baby.Topped the 1st side off with Memory Motel. What a band i remember thinking.Then he played side B Hey Negrita,Melody,Fool To cry,and the amped up Crazy Mama.Ill never forget that day for the rest of my life.It turned me onto the Stones which i ended up buying every album they ever put out plus countless bootlegs(not counting cds and cassettes) over the years.That fella Jim McQuade, passed away recently. Its funny how 1 album can change a persons life.Thanks Jim!

Keith RIchards was purported to say this album( Black and Blue) was basically a guitarist audition to replace Mick Taylor who quit the rolling stones circa 1974 . Wayne Perkins plays lead guitar on this song . Perkins , Harvey Mandel & Ron Wood play lead on or more of the 8 songs from this album . as you know wood got the job . Great in his own right keyboardist Billy Preston does yeoman's work on this album: piano (track or song numbers 1, 2, 5, 6, 8), organ (5, 6), synthesizer (4), percussion (6), backing vocals (1, 4, 5, 6)

As great as the Exile on Main Street vid is going along with the song, it's ironic that Mick Taylor is their greatest ever lead guitar player in the vid, but it was actually Ron Wood who was with them on Black and Blue.
