The greatest mistake the Stones ever made was not doing WHATEVER IT TOOK, to keep Mick Taylor in the band. For starters, they could have PAID him. He was given no credits on SEVERAL albums---in other words, no residuals. In addition, his mates should have helped him with drug addiction and got him the help he needed to stay with the band. They did not... With all due respect to Keith Richards---on Mick Taylor's WORSE DAY, Keef couldn't hold a candle to him. Make no mistake, Keith Richards is a very good guitarist. Mick Taylor is a GREAT guitarist. A guitar genius. Right up there with Hendrix, Clapton, and Santana. No doubt about it. The five albums he produced with the Stones from '69-'74 are all classics. The band was never the same after 1974.

He technically left to Join a band with Jack Bruce that never recorded except for some live appearances ( you can see it on KZbin) and evaporated shortly afterwards.

Stone's Mick Taylor years were special. From mid 60s short "boy meets girl " songs, to the era of guitar "slingers" jamming, was quite a leap, in just a few short years. But, love Ronnie too. More so with the Faces. "A Nod... to a Blind Horse" is such a great album too. Stones tended to stiffel Ronnie too much, imho.

A big part of it too was that Keith really went downhill as a writer right around the middle to the end of the Taylor years so what followed was always going to seem worse. Not sure he did anything on IORR, did he? That's mostly the two Micks though Taylor of course got no credits. The famed title song, Keith wasnt there when Mick J, Ron W and Bowie wrote it and I dont think he even plays on it. Some Girls had Beast of Burden but that may have been the last great song (music) that Keith wrote.

Best version of 'Loving Cup' ever! Thank you for putting this gem up. Everything MT touched turned to gold and this is FACT! Woodie's been with the band 35+ years and "Some Girls" was the last Stones LP of any significance. Taylor did 2 tracks on Beggars, by the way, 2 tracks on Bleed, and the Stones' best material came out from Sticky Fingers up to It's Only Rock 'n Roll." That's all you need to know. Of course, the fact that he wasn't given credit on "Moonlight Mile", "Sway", "Till The Next Time We Say Goodbye", "Time Waits For No One" + the 25 or so unreleased songs on boots like "The Trident Mixes" and the other gems this man wrote, was fucked up by Jagger and Richards, but hey, anyone can tell that the guitar work on these songs was from MT…and no one else.

Right on point, Paul....the song never needed a children's choir intro. What could be more majestic or magnetic than Keef's chill definitive thesis: "Putting the song in an appropriate context, making an overture that the rest of the song has only to encore, section by section; making a bold, quietly confident statement of intent which inspires the rest of my band to burn with me." Mick Taylor, Charlie Watts, and the other Mick respond with wry grins. Nicky Hopkins, Wyman and Bobby or Trevor or whoever get into the spirit of things, and why WAS some other version released as if some crackers for a "Goats' Head Soup" rerelease, when tthis Divine masterpiece of rock and roll prophecy was RIGHT THERE? THIS is the last book of the Holy Rock and Roll scriptures: The Revelation Chapter One 1)8 The 70's are to be the 60's again. 2) Know ye not that time is a flat circle? Play this at 33 and 1/3, 45 or 78, and the message will not change. 3) If you don't understand what the second verse even meant, LOOK OUT! 4) The past is upon you, there is no escape for you from the consequences. 5) The consequences of what? Sure, you don't know. Right. 6) Reap the whirlwind! 7) Jesus laughed. (+_+)^_^(*_*)=_=(✷‿✷)

Taylor is a whirling dervish of rock n roll. His playing will mesmerize you into a trance. Keef is good---don't get me wrong, but Taylor saved that band in 1969. They owe Taylor a lot and they sure did treat him like shit.

@@robertcooney1938 No but screwing someone out of songwriting credits is, imo, the sickest thing one musician can do to another. It’s tantamount to stealing intellectual property. It hardly matters now in 2022 because most fans know which songs he helped write but he is still missing out on alot of royalties.

That's you opinion. Mick Taylor was just about as well known as he was before the Stones as he was when in the band. The Bluesbreakers were HUGE. They had Eric Clapton, Peter Green and then Mick Taylor. He did a few huge succesfull tours in the USA and all over England and few other European countries. He was 17yrs old and was already talked about as one of the greatest blues players. Go listen to them live with a teenage Mick Taylor, you'll be blown away. Brian Jones...eh a waste the last 2yrs.

Yes, it made their output better by far. Keith's song writing during the period from '68 to '73 was the best era by far. He recorded Happy from Exile in about 15 minutes just wrecked on smack. Most of Bleed, Sticky, and Exile was written under the influence of some combination of drugs, which are their best albums hands down.

If you don't know much about pre-stones Taylor, listen to him in John Mayalls Bluesbreakers, amazing guitar playing. By Age 20 he was blowing away Clapton, Green, Kirwan etc. He did this song and did some of the lead licks and rhythm on HTW his first few day in the band (really before he even knew he was a Stone, he thought he was just gonna do a session then leave).

But it's a lot different to the version that's on the album, that's what people are saying that they like this version just as much as the version that made it on the album. This is slower and a lot more bluesy ,with some really guitar work. Listen to this then listen to the album version straight after and you will see what everyone is talking about

Mick Taylor's era produced some of the greatest albums of all time. Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main Street, Goats Head Soup and It's Only Rock-'n'-roll. I still love Brian Jones era in the '60s. Little Red Rooster, The Last Time, Satisfaction, Get Off My Cloud, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Paint It Black, Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadows, Let's Spend The Night Together, Ruby Tuesday, We Love You/Dandelion, Jumping Jack Flash/ Child Of The Moon. Also their first great album Aftermath. I know lots of people don't like Their Satanic Majesties Request, but I really like it. Psychedelia. It's totally different to what they sounded like before or after, so it's just nice to listen to this oddity in their vast catalogue. He also played on Beggar's Banquet. Still, the Mick Taylor era is definitely the best.

I've got a bootleg Stones album on mp3 called Obsidian and it has an outtake of Jumping Jack Flash which sounds like Mick Taylor is playing on. It may be Keith + Keith overdubs, definitely not Brian Jones though, but the guitars got that Taylor sound melodic blues lead. It would have been early 1968 and I've heard Taylor had jammed with the Stones before he joined. In those days there would have just been a few recording studios and the bands would have all been using them and meeting each other.

There’s a bootleg called Obsidian and it’s got numerous studio outtakes from the early days up to the early 80’s and there’s a version of Jumping Jack Flash which I think Mick Taylor is playing on. It’s two guitars, possibly Keith and Keith overdubbed, certainly not Brian Jones but it does sound like Mick Taylor and I have heard he jammed with the Stones before he joined the band.
