perpetual motion groove, universal folklore descending pentatonic riff, creative arrangement of blues structure, interchangeable call and response, it's like they've taken all the elements of music, popular or otherwise, stirred and shaken, and then produce the best song of all time. I've been listening to it nearly 40 years and I just never tire of hearing it. They found the primeval beat, the subconscious groove of life and produced a timeless classic. Thanks for posting this version.

The most lethargic, heartwarming riff I've ever heard. I fucking love this song.

i saw this show in 72. i saw 'em on the 69 tour too.. they closed with this song and it was before "exile" was released. it was amazing. ft worth convention center. don't know how many times i've seen 'em since but the 69/72 shows were the best. just a straight up pure R&R band! KLAUSICK!

@TumblingDice66 yes, riffing into eternity. that's a beautiful thought, to be gliding across the cosmos on the backbeat of Mr. Watts, propulsion of Mr Wyman, solar splendor of Mr/ Taylor's shimmering solos, the cogent commentary of Mr. Jagger, and of course, the steady grpove of Mr. Richards, keeping it all together and knowing exactly how we're getting there. Where we are going is never as important as the way we get there. Yeah, I'd go along for that ride, such a great way to see th universe.

@dugitomi You hit the nail on the head. I'm only 20, been listening to it for four years at least once every week if not every day. I'm glad hardly anyone my age knows it. This will always be my favourite song...especially the direction music is going these days. The end gets me every time, slowly building up to absolute rock and roll bliss. As you said, timeless.

i agree with you dugitoni, i've been listening to this since it came out, i remember bying the 45 single from my local record shop in my last year at school! Fuck this song slides and glistens with the stone's lurch that i just never stop loving! (an old stones fan!)

I saw the stones perform a version just like that at the spectrum in philly on the huge star shaped stage. It was 74 or 75, billy preston was the keyboardist. It was at the time when the bump was a hot dance. The whole place was bumping to the riff as the stones played it over and over again , everyone in a trance.

So glad I stumbled across this version (I like all of them!), but to hear the version from 1972 is awesome! I wish there was a LIVE recording of this as it's such good music! The sound is sooo unbelievable!

tom d sends a grateful thank you for your words. he is not in the best condition, or he'd send the thanks himself. it seems some people get upset over flights of fancy with filigreed phrasing, when as you say, it's really nothing at all, just a verbal impression passing through a mind.

anyone hear that this is a half step higher than most, album included (in C I think, usually in B)? Is that normal, would they change it during this year, or is this bootleg recording's pitch out of whack?
