Rick makes the determination to replace the old cracked and pitted tails for these Hearse lamps. He talks about his reasoning and demonstrates his methods for rolling the tapered tubes and assembling the tail stems.

I did the Colorado River trip many years ago. Boarded the rafts at Lee's Ferry, and got off at Pierce Ferry. The raft company I used was Grand Canyon Expeditions, out of Kanab, UT. Take plenty of pictures, and extra batteries and SD cards for your camera. You will have a great time. Thanks for the videos. Jon

You might have tried to tin the holes in the brass with solder but it's likely that trying to file/sand it smooth would have cause more damage than what it fixed. The fact that the brass was holding all that was left of the steel cores inside showed what the lamps went thru just by the passage of time. Reaping brass is an art unto itself and look at instruments that have been restored of from nearly being crushed on KZbin to see how their reduced.🎺

Some acoustic panels on your shop ceiling would improve the sound quality of your narration. Love these videos.

Thanks for the video. If you have a chance in a subsequent video, I would enjoy it if you could explain about the roller tool. The adjustments, etc. just curiosity. Have a great time with your grandson - don’t want the cricks to rise, but hope you have enough water to float your boat!

Rick, what soldering flux do you use? The solder looks (to me) like Plumbers' solder, but they use acid flux, which is corrosive. Do you perhaps use one of the electronics-type fluxes instead? Could you talk a bit (in a future video) about your choices of solder alloy and flux(es) _and_ why you choose to use them? Curious minds want to know! I hope that you and your Grandson have a great time floating the river! I'm jealous. When my Grandson reached the minimum-required age (16) for the spelunking tour in Mammoth Cave, I took him to that, like my Dad did for me. Have a great time with your Grandson and family!

Thanks and have a nice break going down the river. Is there a chance one time you could show us your soldering technique Interested in the tip size, type of filler and why sometimes you wipe the flux and sometimes not. See you next time.

Have you worked with or have knowledge of cartridge brass, specifically forming rim fire cases. They start with a disc and form it into closed tube after which the rim is formed SOMEHOW. I've tried every firearm source I can think of with no luck. While watching your video the thought hit me you might have run across some info in your travels. Thanks, keep up the great work you do.

The brass I use is actually classified as "cartridge brass" I buy it in 36"x96" sheets, dead soft temper. Modern ammunition cartridges are made by deep drawing processes.

Why are you forcing the green snips to cut left? I can see that you have a pair of red snips on your bench.

Just grabbed the wrong ones. It is a lot easier to use the correct snips when cutting in a curve.
